Job Title: PK–6 Music Teacher

Position Summary
Laramie Montessori Charter School is seeking a dedicated PK–6 Music Teacher to foster a love of music, creativity, cultural appreciation, and self-expression through an authentic Montessori environment. This educator will guide students in developing musical knowledge, appreciation, performance skills, and confidence while honoring the developmental needs of children across Primary, Lower Elementary, and Upper Elementary levels. The Music Teacher will create a prepared environment that supports exploration, movement, collaboration, and joyful learning while aligning instruction with Montessori philosophy, Wyoming State Standards, and the mission of supporting the whole child.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Plans and prepares engaging PK–6 music instruction aligned with Montessori philosophy, Wyoming State Standards, and school goals.
- Creates and maintains a safe, joyful, organized, and developmentally appropriate music environment.
- Provides lessons in music appreciation, rhythm, movement, vocal development, instrument exploration, music theory, cultural music traditions, and performance.
- Integrates music with cultural studies, peace education, history, geography, and global awareness when appropriate.
- Supports students’ creativity, collaboration, confidence, and self-expression through music.
- Differentiates instruction to meet the developmental and learning needs of diverse students.
- Uses observation and assessment to guide student growth and instruction.
- Organizes performances, showcases, or community music opportunities as appropriate.
- Maintains classroom materials, instruments, and equipment responsibly.
- Supports peaceful classroom management aligned with Montessori and school-wide expectations.
- Builds positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Communicates student progress and program information professionally.
- Collaborates with classroom teachers to support integrated learning opportunities.
- Participates in staff meetings, school events, professional development, and conferences.
- Maintains confidentiality and follows school, district, state, and federal policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required
- Strong understanding of elementary music education, child development, and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Knowledge of music theory, rhythm, movement, vocal instruction, and cultural music traditions.
- Ability to inspire creativity, confidence, and joy in students.
- Ability to manage a multi-age learning environment effectively.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Montessori philosophy and practices.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to integrate music into broader educational experiences.
- Proficiency with technology and educational tools that support music instruction.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respect for all students.
Physical Abilities and Working Conditions
This position may require standing, singing, movement, lifting instruments or classroom materials, bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, and supervising children indoors and outdoors. The Music Teacher must be able to maintain an energetic, calm, and positive presence while working in a dynamic school environment.

Entry Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required
Certification: Valid Wyoming Teaching Certificate with Music endorsement or ability to obtain appropriate certification
Background Check: Must complete and clear all required background checks
Experience: Previous experience in elementary, music, Montessori, charter, or multi-age educational settings preferred
