Job Title: Horticulturist or Landscaper
Position Summary
Brentwood Country Club is seeking a reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented Horticulturist or Landscape Gardener to assist in maintaining over 130 acres of ornamental landscapes surrounding the golf course and clubhouse. This position plays a vital role in preserving the pristine appearance of club grounds, gardens, walkways, and outdoor common areas to provide an exceptional experience for members and guests.
The ideal candidate is passionate about horticulture and landscape maintenance, enjoys working outdoors, and takes pride in efficiently completing high-quality ornamental care and groundskeeping tasks. This role offers hands-on experience in diverse horticultural operations and golf course landscape management.
Key Responsibilities
Landscape & Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain golf course grounds, including fairways, greens, rough areas, gardens, walkways, and landscaped common spaces
- Mow, edge, fertilize, mulch, weed, and water lawns and ornamental beds
- Plant and care for flowers, trees, shrubs, vines, bulbs, and herbaceous perennials
- Trim hedges and maintain landscaping around clubhouse facilities and outdoor amenities
- Rake sand bunkers and assist with course setup as needed
- Remove leaves, debris, and trash from outdoor areas to maintain a clean and polished appearance
Horticulture & Plant Care
- Understand and implement proper irrigation practices for a wide variety of plant materials
- Utilize irrigation technology and internal/external data sources to tailor watering schedules and support plant health
- Monitor plants for pests, fungus, pathogens, and disease while applying appropriate controls and treatments
- Perform soil preparation, staking, pruning, training, fertilization, transplanting, integrated pest management (IPM), and pesticide application as needed
- Assist with seasonal displays, annual flower shows, and decorative landscape presentations
Landscape Design & Operations
- Assist with landscape designs, renovations, and installation of plant materials
- Plan and coordinate minor and major landscape changes in advance
- Request and organize plant materials needed for seasonal and long-term projects
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment and tools safely and efficiently, including:
- Mowers
- Tractors
- Cultivators
- Mechanical sprayers
- Forklifts
- Carts and utility vehicles
- Hand and power tools
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous landscaping, horticulture, golf course maintenance, or groundskeeping experience preferred
- Knowledge of turf management, irrigation systems, and ornamental plant care
- Non-commercial Pesticide Applicator License is a plus
- Design, purchasing, and interior landscaping experience preferred
- Ability to identify plant diseases, pests, fungus, and pathogens and implement effective solutions
- Knowledge of safe operating procedures for landscaping equipment and machinery
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced outdoor environment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Flexible schedule with availability for early mornings, weekends, holidays
