Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of hands-on accounting experience with a strong focus on journal entries, payroll accounting, and cost analysis. Experience in the aerospace industry is highly preferred, along with a solid understanding of cost structures, manufacturing environments, and government/compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare, review, and post accurate journal entries related to cost accounting, payroll, inventory, and general ledger activity. 
  • Responsible for monitoring payroll documentation to ensure employees receive the correct amount per pay period. 
  • Maintain and reconcile cost accounts, including work-in-process, labor, overhead, and material costs. 
  • Support and process payroll accounting functions, including labor cost allocations, variance analysis, and reconciliation of payroll-related accounts. 
  • Review financial statements to  determine the company’s financial health, and provide guidance.
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate cost reporting. 
  • Analyze manufacturing and operational data to identify cost trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Collaborate with operations, HR, and finance leadership to ensure accurate costing and labor reporting. 
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities, including cost model updates and labor/burden rate calculations. 
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for audits and compliance, especially in alignment with aerospace industry standards. 
  • Contribute to process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 
  • 3–5 years of experience in cost accounting or general accounting roles. 
  • Strong experience with journal entries, payroll accounting, and account reconciliation. 
  • Aerospace or manufacturing industry experience is strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (Epicor a plus). 
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail. 
  • Ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and recommend solutions. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Attributes 

  • Experience with government contracts or defense/aerospace compliance (FAR/DFARS). 
  • Understanding of standard costing, job costing, or activity-based costing. 
  • Ability to thrive in a  fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Salary Description
$70k to $90k DOE
