Description

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for managing manages the financial lifecycle of patient accounts within a healthcare facility, acting as a liaison between patients, insurance companies, and the provider. Key responsibilities include verifying insurance coverage, processing payments, handling collections, and resolving billing inquiries. This role requires strong communication, proficiency in medical billing/terminology, and attention to detail.

  • Update patient insurance information, maintain detailed records of interactions, and manage aging account lists.
  • Processing patient payments, including co-pays, setting up payment plans for outstanding balances. 
  • Resolve any issues relating to the patient account.
  • Answer inquiries from patients and providers regarding bills, statements, and insurance coverage.
  • Assist patients with terms for repayment structures.
  • Negotiate any overdue balance to recover payment from patients.
  • Reviewing denied claims, filing appeals, and identifying discrepancies to reconcile patient accounts. 
  • Recognizes and reports any payer/insurance and or patient issues that could impact AR.
  • Adherence to established productivity and quality thresholds
  • Provides recommendations for continued improvement to the cash posting process.
  • Adhere to departmental and company policies and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned.  
Requirements

High School graduate or GED.

Generally, 1+ years of experience in healthcare cash posting or medical billing. preferred

Proficiency in Processing patient payments, including co-pays, and setting up payment plans for outstanding balances. (e.g., Cerner, CommunityWorks) and MS Office, specifically Excel. 

Strong understanding of insurance payment processing, Explanation of Benefits (EOB), and contractual adjustments, desired.

Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work independently.

Ability to operate a computer, basic office equipment and multi-line telephone system. 

Must be well organized and detail oriented.

? Must possess full range of body motion to pass basic FIT test for position to include walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching and sitting for extended periods of time.

? Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

? Manual dexterity needed for using a calculator and computer keyboard.
