Description
Thread-Craft is looking for an experienced Manual Lathe Hand to join our team. As a leader in precision machining, we take pride in producing high-quality parts and creating a workplace where skilled tradespeople can grow and succeed.
In this role, you’ll work with manual and semi-automatic lathes to machine precision metal components to spec. We’re looking for someone who enjoys hands-on work, pays attention to detail, and takes pride in producing quality parts the right way.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate manual lathes to machine precision metal parts
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to ensure accurate production
- Use precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gauges) to verify tight tolerances
- Perform in-process and final inspections to ensure parts meet quality standards
- Make manual adjustments to tooling, speeds, and feeds to maintain accuracy and efficiency
- Troubleshoot machining issues and perform minor machine adjustments as needed
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on manual lathe equipment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in accordance with shop safety standards
- Support additional production tasks as needed
What We’re Looking For:
- 2+ years of hands-on experience operating manual lathes in a machine shop or manufacturing environment
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
- Solid understanding of manual machining principles (feeds, speeds, tooling, material types)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve independently
- Self-starter with strong initiative, work ethic, and willingness to learn
- Ability to adapt to new processes and technologies as needed
Preferred (Not Required):
- Experience working with various metals and alloys
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
