Join our Property and Development team and play a key role in delivering and preserving quality affordable housing for the Santa Barbara community! Under general direction, Building and Facilities Construction Coordinator oversees construction, rehabilitation, renovation, and maintenance projects of considerable scope for Housing Authority owned properties. This role collaborates closely with departments, contractors, agencies, and residents and provides leadership and technical guidance to staff and third-party partners. The position performs highly responsible and complex technical work requiring strong decision-making, accountability, project coordination skills and a commitment to community-focused development.
BUILDING & FACILITIES CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR POSITION
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversees and coordinates construction, rehabilitation, renovation, maintenance, vacancy turnover, and capital improvement projects for Housing Authority-owned properties.
- Plans, schedules, and monitors project activities to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, on time, and in compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and project specifications.
- Coordinates and provides technical guidance to contractors, consultants, vendors and staff throughout all phases of project delivery, including inspections, troubleshooting, and resolving project issues.
- Assists with project planning and administration, including preparing cost estimates, developing budgets, procuring materials and equipment, securing permits, and supporting bid and contract processes.
- Reviews project plans, specifications, schedules, work orders, and change requests to monitor progress, quality of work, and overall project performance.
- Evaluates building systems and property conditions to identify maintenance, repair, and renovation needs, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and interior improvements.
- Supports departmental goals and initiatives through collaboration with residents, contractors, architects, agencies, and internal departments to help maintain safe, functional, and quality affordable housing communities.
- Responds to resident and public inquiries, maintains project records and reports, and promotes positive working relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL POSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum five years progressively responsible experience coordinating construction projects, including a minimum of two years in a lead or supervisory role and preferably a general contractor’s license;
· Strong knowledge of skilled trades work, along with the materials, methods, and techniques used in the rehabilitation, repair and construction of residential facilities and ability to perform complex maintenance and repair work;
· Familiarity with operations, services and activities of a facilities maintenance program;
· Familiarity with basic architectural and engineering principles, including the ability to interpret plans, building codes, safety regulations and government regulations;
· Principles of public agency procurement rules, practices and procedures and contract administration;
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
· Effective team leadership, project management and computer skills;
· Ability to develop and maintain excellent rapport with colleagues, clients, landlords and Agency contacts;
· Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability is desirable;
· Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach and lift and carry objects weighing up to 60lbs; and
· Proof of legal right to drive in CA and DMV driving record in good standing that meets HACSB’s insurability requirements is required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Total compensation package includes competitive 5 step salary range $46.52-$56.54 per hour and bilingual premium pay (if applicable). HACSB offers eligible employees a generous and well-rounded benefit package including:

Full-time 9/80 schedule with offices closed alternate Fridays. Performs duties in-person in an office, residential and construction field environments.
