Beveridge & Diamond, PC, the foremost national corporate environmental law firm, is seeking a Senior Manager, Human Resources to lead employee relations, compliance, and compensation & benefits. This role manages a small HR team and serves as a trusted advisor to firm leadership on people strategy, policy, employee matters, and risk in a fast-paced, client-service environment.

Requirements

HR Team Leadership 


• Lead day-to-day HR processes across the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, job changes, promotions, and separations. 

• Manage, coach, and develop the HR Generalist, Benefits/Leave Specialist, setting priorities and service expectations. 

• Establish and improve HR processes, procedures, and service standards to support consistency, compliance, and a positive employee experience.  


Employee Relations 


• Serve as the lead HR contact for employee relations matters involving attorneys and business services staff. 

• Advise partners, managers, and department leaders on performance management, conduct issues, policy interpretation, and workplace concerns. 

• Conduct prompt, fair, and well-documented investigations into complaints and recommend appropriate resolutions. 

• Guide managers through corrective action, performance improvement, and termination processes with a focus on consistency and risk mitigation. 

• Identify patterns and themes in employee relations activity and recommend actions to strengthen engagement, accountability, and culture. 


Compliance and Policy Management 


• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as firm policies and practices relevant to the legal industry. 

• Maintain and update the employee handbook and core HR policies; communicate changes clearly and provide training as needed. 

• Oversee HR compliance programs including I-9 administration, recordkeeping, required postings, background checks, and mandatory training. 

• Monitor legal and regulatory developments and recommend updates to policies, procedures, and manager practices. 

• Partner with firm leadership and outside counsel on sensitive or high-risk employment matters. 


Compensation & Benefits 


• Lead administration and ongoing refinement of compensation and benefits programs for attorneys and business services employees. 

• Conduct market pricing and internal equity reviews; make recommendations on salary ranges, adjustments, and bonus guidance. 

• Oversee benefits and leave administration through the Benefits/Leave Specialist and external vendors, including escalated employee issues. 

• Coordinate annual compensation and bonus cycles, ensuring accurate data, sound process management, and effective communication. 

•  Partner with Finance and update payroll workflows and support payroll systems update.

• Support employee understanding of total rewards programs and promote a positive, service-oriented benefits experience. 


Qualifications 


• Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required; advanced degree preferred. 

• HR certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred. 

• 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including significant responsibility for employee relations, compliance, and compensation & benefits. 

• Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred. 

• Demonstrated experience leading HR staff and managing complex employee relations issues and investigations. 

• Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and HR systems. 

• Excellent judgment, discretion, communication skills, and ability to build credibility across all levels of the firm. 

• Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and adoption of best practices.




Salary Description
170,000 to 190,000
