A SLICFiber Construction Fiber Splicing Technician installs, maintains, and repairs fiber optic cables and equipment for high-speed data networks. Key duties include splicing cables, testing connectivity (using OTDR/power meters), troubleshooting outages, and installing infrastructure in aerial or underground settings. They work outdoors or indoors, ensuring network reliability within Company & Industry Standards.
Key Responsibilities
· Installation: Installing fiber optic cable (fiber-to-the-home/FTTH), conduits, and demarcation enclosures.
· Splicing: Performing fusion or mechanical splicing on single or multi-count fiber cables.
· Testing & Troubleshooting: Utilizing specialized equipment like Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), power meters, and light sources to measure signal loss and locate faults. Strong cognitive problem-solving abilities
· Maintenance: Inspecting and repairing damaged, broken, or degraded cable infrastructure.
· Documentation: Ability to read prints/schematics electronically, & on paper,
Maintain accurate records of splice locations, test results, and network mapping.
· Safety & Compliance: Following strict safety protocols, including working aloft at heights (bucket trucks or ladders) or in confined spaces, able to lift & carry up to 50 Lbs.
· Reliability: Self-disciplined, ability to prioritize work, work independently, & be productive with limited supervision. Some overtime, weekend, or Holiday work may be required, as well as “on Call”.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
- Telecommunications Installation or Construction experience preferred
- Willingness to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
