The Financial Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of multiple properties by managing day-to-day accounting operations. This role is responsible for monitoring accounts payable and receivable, performing reconciliations, posting journal entries, and preparing accurate and timely financial statements. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and has strong analytical skills including excel proficiency, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Accounting peers, Asset Managers, and Property Managers and communicate financial information clearly.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and process deposit receipts
- Collaborate with Property Managers to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Monitor revenue and expense activity, identifying and correcting discrepancies
- Post general ledger journal entries and maintain supporting documentation
- Reconcile account balances to supporting schedules
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements for multiple properties
- Review and calculate Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations
- Review and enter leases, calculate commercial tenant billing
- Communicate financial statement results to property owners
- Prepare and submit draw requests in accordance with funding guidelines
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1-2 years of experience in accounting, preferably in property management or real estate
- Experience preparing financial statements
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
- Proficient in accounting software and solid Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and critical thinking
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Yardi property management software is a plus
- Familiarity with real estate accounting
Working Conditions
- Standard office environment, open cubicles, quiet to moderate noise levels
- Hybrid work environment, minimum 3 days in office at Brookfield HQ
