Description
The Automotive Body/Paint Technician is responsible for restoring and refinishing vehicle surfaces to manufacturer standards and ensuring high-quality cosmetic and structural repairs. This role combines the precision of bodywork with expert refinishing techniques to return vehicles to pre-damage condition. Our technicians receive advanced training, all necessary tools and materials, and work within a supportive, safety-focused environment dedicated to excellence and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Vehicle Assessment & Repair Planning
- Inspect vehicles to assess the extent of body and paint damage.
- Accurately evaluate repair orders, identifying additional materials or labor needs.
- Plan efficient work procedures using technical manuals, manufacturer guidelines, and professional expertise.
- Body Repair & Restoration
- Perform body repairs, including dent removal, welding, soldering, panel alignment, and frame/unibody repairs.
- Replace or repair structural and mechanical components damaged in accidents.
- Sand, clean, and prepare vehicle surfaces for refinishing.
- Mask, cover, and protect non-painted areas; remove accessories such as chrome, mirrors, and trim pieces as needed.
- Painting & Refinishing
- Mix, match, and apply primer, sealer, basecoat, and clearcoat to meet color and quality standards.
- Operate spray-painting equipment, power tools, and related work aids with precision.
- Utilize protective materials to ensure cleanliness and minimize overspray.
- Inspect painted surfaces for color accuracy, texture, and overall finish quality.
- Quality Assurance & Customer Interaction
- Conduct post-repair inspections to verify quality, completeness, and adherence to safety standards.
- Communicate clearly with clients and team members regarding repair processes, progress, and timelines.
- Maintain a positive, customer-first attitude that reflects company values and professionalism.
- Documentation & Safety Compliance
- Document all repairs and materials accurately for billing and quality control.
- Follow established safety rules, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and environmental standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in automotive body and/or paint repair.
- Proven knowledge of repair, refinishing, and surface preparation techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Excellent problem-solving, judgment, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds and perform bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Understanding of and compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Working Conditions
- Work performed primarily in a shop environment with occasional outdoor exposure.
- May involve noise, fumes, dust, and fluctuating temperatures.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used as required.
