Description

Position Summary: 

Under direction is responsible for a variety of maintenance duties including minor repair and operational maintenance of county buildings and facilities.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities: 

  •  Performs or assists in a variety of tasks in general maintenance operations such as painting, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, and landscape.
  •  Makes inspections of county facilities for maintenance operations and reports defects.
  •  May assist custodial staff in performing janitorial duties. Washing windows.
  •  Makes minor repairs to plumbing fixtures.
  •  Assists in the construction and painting of wood frame and metal articles.
  •  Assists in tasks which require additional personnel.
  •  Operates some snow removal equipment, lawn mowers, tractors and other vehicles.
  •  Checks vehicles for proper fuel and antifreeze, water, tires etc.
  •  Removes refuse and unsafe articles.
  •  Places stock in storerooms.
  •  Works inside and outside in a variety of conditions.
  •  May be required to fill out forms and other records.
  •  May be required to drive a variety of cars and light trucks on errands and transport people.
  •  Participates in fire and safety programs.
  •  Services and repairs defective electrical mechanical and plumbing equipment in county buildings and facilities. Does some skilled or technical work as required.
  •  Performs other related work as required.
  •   Some knowledge of methods, practices, materials, and tools used in the building maintenance trades, such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electricity, blacksmithing and cement finishing.
  • Some knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in the maintenance of machinery, such as pumps, compressors, meters, feeding and mixing mechanisms, valves, reduction gears and furnaces.
  •  Some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the maintenance of buildings and related facilities or in the maintenance of a variety of mechanical equipment. 
  •  Skill in the care of and use of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of buildings or a variety of mechanical equipment, depending on the area of assignment.
  •  Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude.
  •  Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, manual coordination and dexterity.
  •  Ability to perform all tasks in a manner to insure that self, citizen, or other employees are not injured.
  •  Skilled in the use of firefighting equipment. 
  •  Ability to know when to report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor.
  •  Ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

  Physical Requirements:

  •  Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time.
  •  Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach frequently throughout the workday.
  •  Ability to physically walk or move independently without assistance, including without the use of a cane, brace, or other mobility aid. 
  •  Ability to lift, carry, Puch, and pull materials, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items occasionally with assistance.
  •  Ability to climb ladders, work from elevated surfaces, and work In confined spaces when necessary.
  •  Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements and maintain manual dexterity sufficiently to perform maintenance tasks.
  •  Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, temperatures, dust, noise, and other environmental conditions.
  •  Ability to respond to emergency maintenance situations outside normal working hours, if required.
  •  Ability to visually inspect equipment, read gauges and work orders, and distinguish colors, warnings, and safety signals.
  •  Ability to hear and communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and by radio.
