Description

 The school psychologist works with school-aged children in grades K-8 who are deaf or hard of hearing using listening and spoken language to communicate. The school psychologist provides direct support and interventions to students; consults with teachers and families to improve support strategies, works with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies; and collaborates with community providers to coordinate needed services.   This is a part-time position (10 hours per week).


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supports teachers and students to ensure academic success
  • Conducts psychological and academic assessments
  • Leads the administration of MCAS and other testing
  • Manages student and classroom behavior by collecting and interpreting student and classroom data, supports staff in implementing behavioral management plans
  • Teaches the SEL curriculum to students to improve communication and social skills of students
  • Promotes positive peer relationships and social problem solving
  • Make referrals to and coordinate services with community-based providers
  • Plans appropriate Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for students, manages the IEP process
  • Monitors and effectively communicates with parents about student progress
  • Helps families understand their children’s learning and mental health needs
  • Enhances staff understanding of and responsiveness to diverse cultures and backgrounds

Other Duties:

  • Responds to questions from Clarke’s other program directors
  • Provides community resources to families as needed
Requirements

Physical demands:

  • Ability to travel between two locations within 10 miles of each other

Education, licenses, certifications, skills and experience:

  • Master’s degree in school psychology or a specialist degree (EdS) in school psychology
  • Massachusetts Certification as a School Psychologist
