Commercial Service Manager
Description

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Service Manager to lead our trailer repair and fleet maintenance operation. The successful candidate will come from a trucking, transportation, commercial fleet maintenance, or heavy-duty repair background and have experience overseeing technicians, shop productivity, compliance programs, and daily shop operations in a fast-paced environment. This role requires a strong understanding of fleet operations, equipment uptime, DOT compliance, and customer service within the transportation industry.


Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day operations of a commercial trailer and fleet maintenance shop.
  • Monitor shop KPIs, financial performance, labor costs, and P&L reporting.
  • Review repairs, inspect completed work, and ensure quality standards are consistently met.
  • Ensure a safe, compliant, clean, and organized work environment aligned with OSHA, DOT, and FMCSA standards.
  • Manage and optimize technician workflow, shop productivity, turnaround times, and labor efficiency.
  • Partner with operations and sales teams to support business growth and customer retention.
  • Prepare and present estimates, repair quotes, and work orders for commercial customers and fleet partners.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules to maximize fleet uptime and minimize breakdowns.
  • Develop staffing schedules, training plans, and performance management initiatives for shop personnel.
  • Oversee inventory control, parts procurement, vendor relationships, and cost management.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between technicians, operations, drivers, fleet customers, and administrative staff.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of leadership experience in a shop environment.
  • Knowledge of Class 8 commercial vehicles. Must be able to inspect work, perform quality checks, and effectively explain issues and corrective actions to customers.
  • Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
  • Experience with shop and maintenance software.
  • Experience managing maintenance operations for commercial fleets, transportation companies, or heavy-duty repair facilities.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus).

Working Conditions:

  • Shop, office and yard environment; may be exposed to dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Requires standing, lifting (up to 75 lbs), bending.
