The Director-At-Large of MGMA-ACMPE serves as a high-level strategic advisor and voting member of the Board, providing strategic oversight necessary to ensure the association remains a relevant, forward-thinking authority in alignment with MGMA-ACMPE’s mission. The Director at Large works to contribute to a culture of integrity, collaboration, and high performance within the board.
Key Responsibilities:
Board Ambassadorship
- Utilize position in the industry to advocate for the association's mission.
- Cultivate and support professional relationships and alliances that directly align with board-approved goals.
- Attend and participate, as able, in MGMA-ACMPE’s conferences and initiatives.
Board Development & Governance
- Participate in evaluation of board directors, committees, and governance processes.
- Participate in training, orientation, and culture-building initiatives that reinforce leadership tone and board effectiveness.
- Provide guidance on governance best practices, risk management, and compliance oversight.
Committee Engagement & Strategic Projects
- Actively serve on one or more Board Committees and support other special initiatives as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Board Chair, CEO, and fellow board members to advance enterprise-level strategic priorities.
Core Competencies & Qualifications
- Demonstrated nonprofit or healthcare governance experience at the board or executive level.
- Ability to support, advise, and learn from the Board Chair while building independent leadership capacity.
- Strong facilitation, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
- Strategic, systems-level thinking with a commitment to ethical governance and board culture development.
Commitment Guidelines:
Estimated Total Commitment: 102-117 hours per year.
- Board Meetings: Attend up to 4 in-person meetings annually, plus 5+ virtual meetings (45 hours + travel time/year)
- Preparation & Review: Review board materials, strategic plans, and committee reports (10-15 hours/year)
- Committee Participation: (15-25 hours/year)
- Annual Conference: Attend majority of annual conference (30 hours + travel time/year)
- Board Member Evaluation: Participates in self and annual evaluation (2 hours/year)
