Accounts Payable Coordinator
Portland, OR
Description

NAYA Family Center is seeking a detail-oriented and community-centered Accounts Payable Coordinator to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for processing accounts payable transactions, vendor and client-related expenses, employee reimbursements, and reconciling ledger accounts — all in service of a mission-driven organization dedicated to Urban Native youth and families. If you're someone who takes pride in getting the numbers right and wants your work to matter, this role is for you.

NAYA offers an exceptional benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) with up to 6% match, 16 paid holidays, and sick and vacation accrual that increases with tenure. This is a full-time role with general working hours of 9am to 6pm. Once training and onboarding are complete, there may be flexibility to work from home 1-2 days a week with supervisor approval.

Pay for this position starts at $27/hour.

Who You Are

  • Ideally, you have knowledge of Native American history and experience working within diverse populations, including urban and reservation Native American communities.
  • You take pride in accuracy and know that getting the details right is how you show up for your team and your community.
  • You bring 2–4 years of experience in accounting or financial services and are comfortable owning an AP function.
  • You understand generally accepted accounting principles, including expense categorization and the difference between restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • You're proficient in Microsoft Excel, online banking platforms, and database systems — experience with Sage Intacct and AP automation tools is a plus.
  • You are able to juggle competing deadlines and shifting priorities without losing your cool or your accuracy.
  • You communicate clearly and professionally with vendors, colleagues, and leadership, and you follow up without being asked.
  • You understand the importance of confidentiality, internal controls, and compliance — especially in a nonprofit environment with grant restrictions and IRS reporting requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Process invoices, reimbursements, and payment requests accurately and on time.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, pre-paid expenses, and credit card transactions.
  • Prepare annual 1099 forms and ensure compliance with IRS requirements.
  • Support internal controls, grant restrictions, and audit inquiries.
  • Work closely with program managers, budget owners, payroll, and GL staff.
  • Contribute as an active, collaborative member of the Finance team and across departments.
