The Revenue Cycle Operations Senior Analyst is responsible for overseeing and optimizing key aspects of the healthcare revenue cycle, with a focus on improving operational efficiency, enhancing financial performance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
This senior-level role requires in-depth knowledge of revenue cycle processes, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to support cross-functional teams in identifying and addressing process inefficiencies. The Senior Analyst plays a critical role in driving improvements, identifying strategic opportunities, and supporting organizational goals through data-driven insights and project leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
Revenue Cycle Strategy & Performance
- Lead complex revenue cycle projects that enhance operational efficiency and financial performance.
- Conduct in-depth analysis of key performance indicators, including accounts receivable, denials, collections, billing accuracy, payment posting, and other relevant metrics.
- Provide data-driven recommendations to improve revenue cycle outcomes.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and execute performance improvement strategies across departments.
- Ensure revenue cycle initiatives align with broader organizational goals.
- Identify automation opportunities and work with IT and operational teams to implement solutions that improve workflow speed and accuracy.
Process Improvement
- Design and implement process improvements across revenue cycle functions, including billing, coding, collections, and denials management.
- Streamline operations, reduce costs, and support greater consistency across revenue cycle workflows.
- Lead the development and maintenance of standardized policies, procedures, and workflows to support best practices.
- Monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, and payer-specific requirements.
- Ensure adherence to coding, billing, and documentation standards.
- Identify and mitigate compliance risks within revenue cycle operations.
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Create comprehensive data analyses, financial reports, and dashboards to support performance monitoring and executive decision-making.
- Leverage advanced Microsoft Excel skills to develop financial models, pivot tables, and visualizations.
- Analyze and interpret financial data to identify discrepancies, forecast revenue, and recommend corrective actions.
- Highlight trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement through clear reporting and communication.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as a subject matter expert on revenue cycle processes.
- Provide guidance and support to junior analysts and project team members as needed.
- Act as a liaison between revenue cycle teams and other departments to ensure alignment on process changes and improvement efforts.
- Support training initiatives by contributing to process documentation, presentations, and performance education.
Professional Development
- Stay current on changes in healthcare billing and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely updates to policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Participate in relevant training and professional development to maintain and advance technical and regulatory knowledge.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance to Analysts or other project team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in healthcare revenue cycle operations, with a focus on billing, coding, collections, and data analysis.
- Previous experience in a senior analyst role or leadership role preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Power BI or Tableau, is a plus.
- Familiarity with EHR systems, such as Epic, and healthcare billing platforms preferred.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
