Description


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing treatment planning to patients of the FoundCare Behavioral Health department, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, integrated, trauma-informed, patient-centered care, in accordance with state and federal regulations, HRSA and CMS requirements, and FoundCare Behavioral Health protocols.


This is a part-time position working approximately one day per week.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 


Clinical Care & Psychiatric Services

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations after referral from Behavioral Health practitioner in accordance with protocol.
  • Diagnose psychiatric conditions using DSM-5 criteria.
  • Provide medication management including initiation, adjustment, continuation, and discontinuation of psychotropic medications.
  • Deliver psychiatric services across the lifespan as credentialed and clinically appropriate.
  • Educate patients on medication purpose, risks, benefits, side effects, and non-pharmacologic treatment options (e.g., psychotherapy).
  • Provide clinical leadership and consultation to interdisciplinary staff regarding complex psychiatric cases.


Treatment Planning & Documentation

  • Develop, review, and update individualized psychiatric treatment plans demonstrating medical necessity.
  • Ensure treatment plans are reviewed at least every 90 days or sooner as clinically indicated.
  • Document all clinical care in EPIC, including psychiatric evaluations, progress notes, medication management, and care coordination.
  • Ensure documentation reflects accurate clinical decision-making and avoids inappropriate duplication.
  • Document lab orders, results, and follow-up actions in Epic.


Quality Measures & Compliance

  • Ensure completion of required screening tools at visits (e.g., PHQ-9/PHQ-A, GAD-7, and BMI).
  • Order and monitor laboratory testing in accordance with FoundCare protocol: 

-Quarterly labs for patients prescribed controlled substances.

-Biannual labs for patients prescribed non-controlled psychiatric medications.

  • Review lab results and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Verify controlled substance prescribing through Florida PDMP (EFORCSE) prior to prescribing and as required.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensure adherence to HRSA, CMS, and grant-related documentation standards.


Care Coordination & Integrated Care

  • Collaborate with Behavioral Health Practitioners to support psychotherapy and holistic treatment planning.
  • Coordinate care with Primary Care Providers (PCPs), specialists, Care Coordinators, pharmacies, and external partners.
  • Encourage patients to utilize FoundCare or contracted pharmacies to promote continuity of care.
  • Support integrated care by encouraging patients to establish care with a FoundCare PCP when applicable.


Crisis & Safety Responsibilities

  • Respond appropriately to behavioral health crises (e.g., suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation) in accordance with crisis protocols.
  • Participate in safety planning, risk assessments, and emergency interventions when required.
  • Provide clinical oversight and guidance in crisis situations.


Professional & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and clinical guidance to psychiatric providers, APRNs, and clinical staff as assigned.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and departmental initiatives.
  • Complete peer reviews in a timely manner in accordance with FoundCare quality assurance and peer review protocols, ensuring documentation reflects clinical quality, compliance, and adherence to standards of care.
  • Support staff training and professional development activities.
  • Maintain licensure, DEA registration, credentialing, and continuing education requirements.
  • Promote FoundCare’s mission, vision, and commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced knowledge of psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and psychopharmacology.
  • Strong understanding of HRSA, CMS, and behavioral health compliance requirements.
  • Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and manage clinical risk.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, interdisciplinary teams, including the ability to communicate in the English language with or without the use of interpreters or auxiliary services.
  • Proficiency in Epic or similar electronic health record systems.
  • Commitment to culturally competent, trauma-informed care delivery.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to endure short, intermittent, and/or long periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties. 
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 25 pounds or less. 
  • Use standard office equipment and technology, including computers, telephones, and clinical equipment and systems, in the course of daily duties.
  • Ability to travel to other FoundCare locations and perform job duties. 
  • Ability to travel to other locations to attend meetings, workshops, and seminars, plus travel to other FoundCare departments and FoundCare conference rooms.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with specialization in Psychiatry.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Active, unrestricted Florida medical license.
  • DEA registration and eligibility to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience, preferably in community health or integrated-care settings.
  • Eligibility for and maintenance of medical staff privileges, Medicaid, and Medicare credentialing.
  • Preferred: Bilingual proficiency in English and Haitian Creole or Spanish.
