Description

The Bakery Department Manager oversees daily operations of the bakery department, ensuring quality production, customer service, and profitability. Manage staff, inventory, ordering, and maintain a safe, sanitary environment while supporting Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience and meeting performance goals.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Management:

  • Train, supervise, and motivate bakers, clerks, and other bakery staff.
  • Create and manage staff schedules.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and support career development.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase bakery sales and expand customer base.

Product Management:

  • Oversee daily production, ensuring products meet quality standards and align with company specifications.
  • Ensure products are visually appealing, fresh, and well-stocked to attract customers.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop new bakery items, seasonal offerings, and promotional products.
  • Manage production schedules to minimize waste and ensure product availability without overproduction.

Inventory & Ordering:

  • Monitor and manage inventory levels for ingredients, packaging, and other bakery-related supplies.
  • Place orders for ingredients and supplies to ensure cost-effectiveness and minimize spoilage.
  • Implement efficient stock rotation (FIFO) to reduce waste and maintain freshness of products.
  • Track and manage inventory accurately, ensuring proper documentation.

Customer Service & Sales:

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with recommendations, slicing, packaging, and resolving concerns.
  • Implement merchandising strategies to enhance product visibility and attract customer attention.
  • Monitor sales trends and adjust product offerings to maximize department sales.

Health, Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including proper food handling and storage.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Oversee the upkeep and cleanliness of bakery.

Financial Performance & Budgeting:

  • Monitor department financial performance, ensuring alignment with the store's budget.
  • Control shrinkage through effective inventory management.
  • Manage labor costs, scheduling, and adjust staffing as needed to meet financial goals.
  • Work with vendors/suppliers to maintain competitive pricing.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma (GED) required; 2+ years of management experience.
  • Prior bakery or culinary experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and math skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in a bakery environment.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Salary Description
$55,000-$58,000
