Position Summary:

The Director of Health & Safety (H&S) provides strategic and operational leadership for all health and safety programs across EROCK’s operations. This role is accountable for building and sustaining a high-performance safety culture that protects employees, contractors, and stakeholders while enabling operational excellence.


This leader will drive the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety systems, risk management practices, and performance frameworks to achieve world-class safety outcomes. The Director partners closely with executive leadership, operations, construction, and project teams to embed safety into every phase of business execution.


This position reports to the Vice President of QHSE and serves as a key member of the leadership team influencing enterprise-wide performance.


Key Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and execute a forward-looking H&S strategy aligned with business goals and operational growth.
  • Establish clear safety vision, objectives, and measurable KPIs (leading and lagging indicators).
  • Champion a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Safety Management System & Governance

  • Lead development of enterprise-wide safety management systems aligned with ISO 45001.
  • Standardize policies and ensure consistent implementation.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other relevant agencies. 
  • Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary program updates. 
  • Oversee audits, inspections, and compliance assessments across operational and project sites. 
  • Manage relationships with regulatory agencies and external auditors as required. 

Risk Management & Incident Prevention

  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies across construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance activities. 
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation. 
  • Analyze safety trends and recommend preventative measures to reduce incidents and improve performance. 
  • Ensure emergency response plans and crisis management procedures are maintained and regularly tested. 

Training & Development

  • Establish and oversee H&S training programs for employees, contractors, and supervisors. 
  • Ensure all required safety certifications, qualifications, and training records are maintained. 
  • Facilitate leadership engagement through safety meetings, toolbox talks, audits, and coaching activities. 
  • Develop programs that enhance employee awareness and strengthen safety competencies. 

Operational Support

  • Partner with Operations and Project teams to integrate safety requirements into project planning and execution. 
  • Conduct site visits to support field operations and reinforce safety expectations. 
  • Provide guidance during project mobilization, construction, commissioning, and maintenance activities. 
  • Support contractor management programs and ensure alignment with company safety standards. 

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing HS team. 
  • Establish clear expectations, goals, and accountability measures for HS personnel. 
  • Mentor and develop future safety leaders within the organization. 
  • Drive collaboration across departments to achieve company safety and environmental objectives. 
Requirements

Basic (Required) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. 
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive H&S leadership experience in industrial, energy, manufacturing, construction, power generation, oil & gas, or related industries. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading safety teams and programs across multiple sites or projects. 
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and applicable environmental regulations. 
  • Demonstrated experience implementing safety management systems and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis. 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to travel up to 30–50% to project sites and operational facilities as needed. 

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or similar professional certification. 
  • Experience supporting EPC, power generation, distributed energy, electrical construction, or heavy industrial operations. 
  • Experience with ISO 45001 or equivalent management systems. 
  • Strong background in contractor safety management and field operations.

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills with the ability to drive culture change. 
  • Advanced understanding of occupational health and safety regulations. 
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and implement practical risk mitigation solutions. 
  • Strong project management and organizational capabilities. 
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills. 
  • Ability to effectively interact with executives, managers, field personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and H&S reporting systems. 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel frequently to field locations, project sites, and operational facilities. 
  • Ability to walk active construction and industrial sites. 
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas when required. 
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in varying environmental conditions.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
