POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, the Competitive Swim Coordinator will support the development, organization, and promotion of the competitive swim program. This position serves as a primary ambassador of the program, representing the YMCA at swim meets, community events, and outreach opportunities.
The Competitive Swim Coordinator will foster strong relationships with swimmers, families, coaches, and community partners while ensuring a high-quality participant experience. This role includes administrative and operational support responsibilities, including coordinating coach schedules and approving timecards, with less emphasis on direct personnel management. This position provides a career pathway toward Swim Coach and ultimately Director of Competitive Swim.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Program Representation & Community Engagement
· Serve as the face of the competitive swim program at meets, events, and within the community.
· Actively promote the YMCA and the swim program through community outreach and relationship building.
· Travel regularly to attend swim meets, competitions, and community events.
· Build and maintain positive relationships with swimmers, parents, coaches, and partner organizations.
· Communicate program updates, expectations, and opportunities effectively to families and participants.
Program Operations & Administration
· Coordinate and manage swim coach schedules to ensure adequate program coverage.
· Review and approve staff timecards in a timely and accurate manner.
· Assist in planning and coordinating swim meet logistics, including travel arrangements and meet participation.
· Support the development and distribution of team schedules, calendars, and communications.
· Maintain program records, attendance, and reports as required.
· Ensure adherence to YMCA policies, procedures, and Code of Conduct.
· Will work with Aquatics Director to address budget items including planning, forecasting, and accountability to results related to budgetary concerns.
Program Support
· Will act as Head Coach for swim team.
· Assist in organizing program activities, special events, and team functions.
· Support recruitment and retention efforts for swimmers within the competitive program.
· Provide on-deck support as needed to ensure smooth daily operations.
· Collaborate with Aquatics leadership to ensure program quality and participant satisfaction.
Career Development
· Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities related to coaching and aquatics leadership.
· Demonstrate readiness for advancement into Swim Coach responsibilities over time.
Other Requirements
· Required to travel periodically for swim meets and events.
· Regularly required to stand for long periods on the pool deck.
· All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in aquatics, competitive swimming, or related field preferred.
· Prior experience in swim team environments strongly preferred.
· Strong organizational and administrative skills.
· Ability to manage schedules, timekeeping, and multiple priorities effectively.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff, families, and community members.
· Ability to represent the YMCA in a professional and positive manner.
· Understanding of competitive swim environments and meet operations preferred.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
· Current Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
· Completion of YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training.
· Completion of Blood Borne Pathogens training.
· Valid driver’s license.
· Additional certifications (USA Swimming, coaching certifications) encouraged as part of career pathway.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· The work environment is primarily poolside and includes exposure to humid, wet, and outdoor conditions.
· Noise level is typically moderate to high during practices and meets.
· Must be able to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods.
· Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
· Frequent travel to meets and events is required.
