Job Summary:
The Controls Technician is a critical member of CW’s Maintenance Reliability Team. They are responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining and improving our PLC equipment and other Automated Systems. They will work directly with our Maintenance & Engineering Teams to troubleshoot and support CW’s many production lines and modification requests.
Responsibilities of the Position:
- Using automation software for programming and trouble-shooting production equipment
- Replaces faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, motors and sensors
- Train others on the Maintenance team in the execution of basic electrical tasks
- Plan & order materials for specific projects & tasks as well as maintaining shop inventory
- Model, implement, and comply with electrical safety rules and related industry regulations
- Wire electrical panels from schematics, startup and debug production equipment
- Designing and wiring small control cabinet for conveyors and other equipment
- Design and write programs for integrating conveyor systems to work with OEM equipment
- Program HMIs for integration projects and modifying existing HMI programs to make them more functional for CW
- Notified when Major Breakdowns occur to assist in investigating root-cause and repair solutions
- Working closely with engineering and maintenance to help with making improvements on production equipment
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management
Requirements
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Have worked in a mechanical setting; related to food manufacturing is preferred
- Knowledge of control programs, HMIs, indirect addressing and arrays, Allen Bradley, Rockwell Automation, RS Logic 500, Studio 5000
- Self-starting, reliable, demonstrate a desire to learn and is capable of adapting quickly across job functions and responsibilities
- Ability to troubleshoot controls and electrical systems with amp meters, voltmeters, tracers, and recording devices
- Ability to read electrical schematics, electrical prints, wiring diagrams, and nameplates
- Ability to troubleshoot variable frequency drives (VFD) drives and controls
- Must have the ability to work on 3 phase motors, inverters, servos. AC and DC control circuit component trouble shooting ability
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits, up to 480V
- Ability to connect with a laptop to troubleshoot, program PLC’s & HMI’s
- Ability to program VFD’s
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on an on-call basis as needed
- Valid driver’s license and insurability under the company’s insurance policy. Employee will be required to drive to each of CW’s facilities and will receive a Mileage Expense based on current CW Policy
- Will require own set of Tools
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma
- 4 + years of experience as a Controls Technician, Controls Electrician, PLC Programmer or other related Field Experience
- Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing facility, troubleshooting industrial electrical and electronic systems
Food Safety Responsibilities:
- Attend all food safety training sessions (GMP, SQF, HACCP, Allergen, Food Facility Security, Preventing Foodborne Illness)
- Participate in company GMP walks
- Enforce company rules regarding food safety and monitoring
Working Conditions:
- Office setting and warehouse environment with temperature range of 55 – 80 degrees
- Some tasks may require working near localized thermal elements that can cause the perceived temperature to be higher until the task is completed
- Capable of complying with all Safety requirements including but not limited to Bump Cap/Hard Hat, Safety Eyewear, Hearing Protection and Disposable Masks
Physical Requirements:
- Physical dexterity to perform installation and troubleshooting work with the facilities (interior and exterior) safely and efficiently.
- Abilities may include but are not limited to:
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate tools
- Bending at the waist
- Kneeling, crouching, standing for extended periods of time
- Reaching above the head to store or retrieve materials
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information
- Seeing to perform skilled work and read meters or gauges
- Lifting and carrying heavy equipment or materials
- Working in cramped spaces
- Use ladders, scaffolding, and/or a scissor lift while performing job duties
Salary Description
$32 - $46 / hour
