Description

The Processor provides essential day-to-day tasks to properly receive, and direct the processing

of materials to get them ready to be added to the library’s collections. This includes serials,

hands-on kits, and any other materials that are circulated to patrons. The detailed duties listed

below may vary from one Processor to another based on the needs of the library.

 

Required Hours: This is a year-round, non-exempt part-time position scheduled 16 hours per week. Hours are flexible but must fall within Monday through Friday 9 AM - 5PM operating hours.


Pay & Benefits: $18.50 - $19 per hour, depending on qualifications. Paid leave and sick time included.


Detailed Duties:


 Receiving

  • Receives and unpacks boxes and shipments of materials.
  • Properly fills out packing slips and rectifies orders with shipments, marking invoices the online catalog.
  • Sorts items by format or selector and delivers to designated areas as required.
  • Oversees the receiving room counter and its procedures for proper intake of all items that may be entered into the library’s catalog.

 Processing

  • Orders appropriate packaging materials for the circulating item such as special boxes, stickers, label tape and other supplies.
  • Assists with general processing tasks including handling the processing of kits and other specialty items.
  • Efficiently and accurately processes all types of library materials: creates spine labels, places stickers on items, covers books, and processes the cases for special materials.
  • Performs basic searches in the library catalog and in One Note to identify processing specifications.
  • Oversees collection changes – works closely with the Catalogers and Copy Catalogers on projects that require relabeling.
  • Removes temporary stickers and changes catalog record as appropriate.
  • Maintains statistics and provides monthly reports.
  • Communicates processing changes in the shared One Note document.
  • Maintains friendly and helpful communication with selectors and library staff.
  • Communicates cataloging changes in the shared online document.

Organizational Relationships:

  •  Reports to the Technical Services Manager.
  •  Reports to the Cataloger and Copy Cataloger.
  •  Works closely with the selectors of materials and those in Circulation.

Qualifications:

  •  Possess an attention to detail and precision with a practical mindset.
  •  Be friendly and professional, working well in a team environment as well as solo.
  •  Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
  •  Have 2 or more years of database entry experience in a library, bookstore, or equivalent type of employer.
  •  Have excellent computer applications and Internet skills. An ability to learn and use different databases is essential.
  •  An ability to read and write in a second language besides English is a plus.
Requirements

Physical Requirements:

All following duties are repetitive and may continue for as long as 1 hour at a time:

  •  Sitting, bending, stooping and twisting to retrieve and place objects from place to place.
  •  Grasping using the entire hand and arm strength to carry & place objects.
  •  Reaching above shoulder to place, shift, and retrieve materials on high shelves.
  •  Average lifting and carrying: raising and/or moving objects between 5-50 pounds.
  •  Pushing/pulling a cart on wheels weighing as much as 100 pounds.
  •  Fingering: picking, pinching, grasping, typing or otherwise working with fingers in addition to the whole hand.
  •  Visual requirement: able to detect color coding of materials and read a computer screen.
  •  Manual: enough to operate computer keyboard and mouse.
  •  Communication: Fluent in English, both written and oral. Able to communicate with co-workers in person and over the phone or chat.
