HOURS & SALARY: Full-time, 38 hours per week, with a hiring range of $52,962 – $66,202 per year depending on experience.

JOB SUMMARY

The Adult Services Assistant Manager serves as a key operational and people leader within the Adult Services Division. This position provides direct supervision of assigned staff and service areas, sets performance and service standards, and ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality public library services. In partnership with the Adult Services Manager, the role supports division-wide planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Division Operations 

1. Leads assigned service areas and staff, ensuring alignment with library strategic goals and division priorities. Establishes clear standards, measurable outcomes, and accountability for results.

2. Plans, implements, and supports the assignment and distribution of resources for public services of the division, including Book-a-Librarian, Special and Local History Collections, the Makerspace, Library of Things, materials selection, business services, and other specialized services to the adult population in Laramie County. 

3. Manages the full employee lifecycle for assigned staff, including recruitment, hiring, division onboarding, training, performance management, coaching, corrective action, and evaluation. Builds a culture of engagement, ownership, and service excellence.

4. Directs day-to-day division operations, including workflows, staffing, and scheduling. Identifies operational gaps and implements solutions that improve efficiency, consistency, and patron experience.

5. Develops, monitors, and refines operational procedures to ensure compliance with library policies, legal requirements, and professional standards, including patron confidentiality.


Leadership & Collaboration 

1. Drives division-level planning and implementation of strategic initiatives. Translates division-wide goals into actionable plans for assigned areas and monitors progress toward defined outcomes.

2. Contributes to division budgeting discussions, resource allocation planning, and service development decisions. Influences decision-making through data-informed recommendations and operational insight.

3. Leads cross-functional projects, task forces, and system-wide initiatives as assigned. 

4. Serves as Manager-on-Duty, exercising independent judgment in resolving patron concerns, operational disruptions, facility issues, and emergency situations.

5. Represents the Adult Services Division in community partnerships, professional organizations, and collaborative initiatives. Acts as an ambassador for library services and programs.

6. Performs other duties as assigned, including working at public service points.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

· Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited college or university and 2 years of relevant experience; or

· The equivalent combination of education and experience

· Supervisory experience strongly preferred


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within six months.

· Good project management skills and ability to meet project deadlines.

· Proficiency with a variety of software programs and systems.

· Working knowledge of public library operations. 

· Ability to supervise, coach, train, and lead. 

· Ability to work flexible work schedules including weekends and evenings. 

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

WORK SCHEDULE 

Work schedules are predominantly office hours but will also include evenings and weekends. Employees must be available to work anytime the library is open.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The essential duties and responsibilities of this job require the employee to move or manipulate moderately heavy equipment, boxes, carts, files, and/or stacks of material from one location to another.
