Prior Career Experience Credited Avon Service:
- 2–3 Years = 1 Year
- 4–5 Years = 2 Years
- 6–7 Years = 3 Years
- 8–9 Years = 4 Years
- 10+ Years = 5 Years

2026 Starting Pay
Actual pay may vary by 24 hours based on assigned shift schedule.
1 year credit = $81,890
2 to 4 years credit = $86,501
5 years credit = $88,001 (includes $1,500 longevity pay rate)
+ Paramedic = $4,000 additional
Pension Base - $94,001 (First Class Firefighter/EMT plus maximum longevity compensation.)

- US Citizen
- Current career firefighter employed at least 2-years with a full-time career fire department
- Current EMT-B or EMT-P license or the ability to obtain Indiana Reciprocity
- State of Indiana Firefighter II or certification through IFSAC or ProBoard
- No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 20 years of age or older
- Possess a valid Driver’s License
- Eligibility for the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS)

Process
- Complete the Avon Fire Department approved Employment Application
- Complete and pass the Oral Interview
- Certification of list by the Merit Commission with a 6-month expiration
Upon Conditional Offer
- Drug Screening Required.
- Must Pass an NFPA 1582 Compliant physical or have one available within the last year.
NOTE: Non-INPRS 1977 Fund career firefighters must pass all requirements necessary to be accepted into the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) 1977 Police and Fire Retirement Fund. (This includes an INPRS Application, Medical Evaluation, and Psychological Evaluation.)
