Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Tester

Description

The SQA Tester is responsible for software quality assurance in the maintenance of the Veteran’s Affairs VistA application suite.

Tasks/activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs testing of repair code modifications (initial source code) to ensure released patches correct the defects for which they are intended, and do not create additional defects in the software
  • Complies with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) mandated Software Testing Requirements as defined in the Veteran-focused Integration Process (VIP) for VA user acceptance testing
  • Supports or completes deliverables: Initial Operating Capability (IOC) documents, Master Test Plan and Test Scripts, and Site Feedback Form and User Test
  • Releases Source Code developed based on the defect repair
  • Maintains the applications automated regression test system by updating the regression test scripts as necessary
  • Enters new software defects identified during testing into ServiceNow as needed
  • Reads User Manuals to understand software applications
  • Edits Test Plans/Patch Descriptions
  • Conducts Software Testing (functionality, regression, interoperability etc.).
  • Coordinates users
  • Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable behavior, errors and inconsistencies with application functionality, output, online screens and content
  • Works with software development engineers in product design, code reviews, walkthroughs and product lifecycle inspections
  • Tracks and updates tickets referred to Tier 3 to stay compliant in ServiceNow
  • Reads User Manuals to understand software applications
  • Assists Developers with problem investigation and resolution as necessary
  • Responds to inquiries from technical support regarding functions and operation of software applications
  • Reports test results and analysis
  • Verifies and develops documentation
  • Follows Agile best practices while testing modifications.
  • Creates Test Plan and test cases and scripts and ensure traceability to requirements and logs Defect Work Items in IBM Rational Tool Concert (RTC)
  • Provides interoperability testing of HL7 interfaces to verify commercial devices connected to VistA comply with the HL7 standard
  • Ensures required data and artifacts are complete, correct, and up to date
  • Analyzes and resolves all HL7 message data format issues, and any interface failures between systems
  • Provides a Testing Progress Report containing the status of all items planned for testing, in testing, or which have in the prior two weeks completed testing
  • Responds to inquiries from technical support regarding functions and operation of software applications.
  • Tracks different aspects of development including Testing and Traceability using Rational Jazz Tool
  • Uses Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) for Tracking, upgrading, supporting and managing tickets


Requirements

Minimum/General Experience: 5 years


Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Other Related Field); Advanced Educational degree preferred.


Essential Skills/Qualifications:

  • Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) A MBI is conducted by Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and covers a five (5) year period. It consists of a review of National Agency Check (NAC) records [OPM Security Investigations Index (SII), Department of Defense (DOD) Defense Central Investigations Index (DCII), FBI name check, and a FBI fingerprint check], a credit report covering a period of five (5) years, written inquiries to previous employers and references listed on the application for employment; an interview with the subject, law enforcement check; and a verification of the educational degree.
  • U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Computer Science, Management Information Systems or Other Related Field)
  • Ability to work from home and perform duties with a remote located team
  • Ability to follow outlined instructions
  • Ability to work with others such as developers and site users
  • Ability to multitask between multiple patches to test
  • Familiarity with Excel to update spreadsheets
  • Ability to execute testing in a timely manner
  • Ability to prioritize tasks

  • Knowledge of the VISTA system is a plus
