We are seeking a Technical Lead to own the technical success of assigned customers and jurisdictions in Illinois. This role serves as the technical counterpart to the Customer Success Manager, leading complex technical support, election programming guidance, system testing, implementation planning, customer training, and jurisdiction-specific requirements. The Technical Lead also partners with Election Production & Testing, Engineering, Sales, and Certification teams to translate customer and regulatory needs into reliable technical solutions.

A note to candidates: We do not expect a new Technical Lead to arrive with every skill listed below. We value ownership, sound judgment, curiosity, and a demonstrated ability to learn complex systems and jurisdictional requirements.

What you will do:

  • Own the technical relationship for assigned customers and serve as the primary point of contact for technical questions, issue resolution, and project scoping.
  • Learn and maintain working knowledge of Illinois election laws, regulations, processes, certified software and firmware versions, system configurations, server and client equipment, tabulation equipment, and customer product environments.
  • Develop high-level technical and operational expertise to diagnose complex customer issues, identify preventive measures, and      escalate appropriately when additional expertise is required.
  • Support election programming activities, including jurisdictional rules and processes, election project coordination, template projects, ballot programming guidance, and test deck recommendations or support.
  • Direct jurisdiction-specific full-system election simulations, document gaps, define requirements, and support user acceptance testing strategy and planning.
  • Document hardware and software anomalies, communicate findings clearly, and partner across teams to drive practical solutions from both technical and business perspectives.
  • Provide jurisdictional guidance to Engineering, participate in testing current or new functionality, and support product development with customer feedback and market requirements.
  • Support state certification efforts by identifying functional and legal technical requirements and participating in requirements definition, preparation, testing, and certification activities as needed.
  • Plan and support system implementations, upgrades, equipment delivery, acceptance testing, preventive maintenance, normal maintenance, and election-day readiness.
  • Conduct customer and staff training on election products, testing, programming, and election-day support procedures.
  • Partner with Sales on technical responses, project scoping, RFP support, demonstrations, and fulfillment activities when needed.
  • Adapt to changing priorities, competing demands, tight timelines, and unexpected events while maintaining a professional, customer-focused approach.
Requirements

What you bring:

  • Experience delivering successful software and hardware system implementations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal stakeholders, customers, and government partners.
  • Strong organization, project coordination, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze data and technical problems, determine root causes, and identify practical solutions and preventive measures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain trusted business relationships with customers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, primarily within the assigned territory, with additional travel when business needs require.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in the elections industry, including maintenance or operation of voting systems.
  • Experience working with county or state government customers.
  • Working knowledge of Windows client and server operating systems, Microsoft databases, networking infrastructure, client-server architecture, switch management, static and dynamic IP configuration, and general security concepts.
  • Experience with system virtualization, including VMware; software development; or hardware and software quality assurance testing.

Physical and work environment:
