The Manyfold Fund makes grants to catalyze methane pollution reduction, with a focus on the United States. Methane is an incredibly potent greenhouse gas – 86 times more than CO2 – which means curbing pollution here can help stave off catastrophic changes to the climate. We focus on the energy, agricultural, and waste sectors, which account for most human-caused methane emissions.

Scope: The Program Director will be responsible for the development and execution of a complex portfolio of high-impact grantmaking initiatives, and multi-sector partnerships focused on methane reduction from oil and gas supply chains, with a focus on five key states: California, Colorado, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Texas, as well as opportunities at the federal level and Canada. The Program Director provides coalition-building and advocacy expertise while contributing strong project management support. They ensure grants move forward on schedule and oversee timely assessment of grant activities. The Program Director also collaborates closely with the Partnership Project team, existing grantees such as the Methane Partners Campaign, and the Manyfold Fund Steering Committee, which is composed of funders and subject matter experts.

Essential Duties:

Program Management

• Supports the Steering Committee to set annual goals, develop key performance indicators, and oversee grant making efforts.
• Working backward from the goals established with the project's Steering Committee, recruits, develops, and manages a portfolio of high-impact grantees across the energy (main focus), agriculture, and waste sectors.
• Fosters collaboration among Manyfold Fund’s portfolios of grantees in the U.S. and Canada working to advance policies to reduce methane pollution and hold polluters accountable.
• Serves as a primary point of contact for government officials and the philanthropy community, and helps align and channel resources toward a shared strategy. 
• Uses regional and technical expertise to influence strategy development and execution while making recommendations on funding allocation, partnerships, and program adjustments.
• Monitors developments in the methane field to identify emerging needs, gaps, and opportunities. 
• Makes recommendations on relevant research and analysis to inform the effective development, delivery, and evaluation of Manyfold Fund’s work in the U.S. and Canada.
• Leads programmatic planning, including goal-setting, work plan development, and impact measurement strategies for assigned projects.
• Works with experts across sectors on cross-cutting initiatives in the region.

Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships

• Proactively maintain extensive external networks with experts and opinion-formers within the methane, energy, and broader climate change and sector-specific community to identify potential grantees and ensure decision-making is shaped by up-to-date insights and research. 
• Manage relationships with grantees, the community of aligned donors, and practitioners working to advance the goals of Manyfold Fund. 
• Identify appropriate partners and collaborations to advance grantmaking strategies including, as appropriate, active participation in policy discussions on Energy, Agriculture, and/or Waste sector methane mitigation. 
• Represent Manyfold Fund in high-level discussions at meetings with NGOs, think tanks, academics, funders, private sector partners, experts, and consultants; ensure follow-up, as needed. This will include international (approximately once per year) and domestic travel. 
• Presents grants to the Manyfold Fund Steering Committee, along with updates and reports.
• Engages with funders and philanthropic partners to highlight the Manyfold Fund’s achievements and impact, as requested by the Steering Committee.
• Collaborates with fundraising and communications colleagues to share success stories and outcomes of funded initiatives.

Grant Management

• Manages relationships with grantees, the community of aligned donors, and practitioners working to advance the goals of the Manyfold Fund.
• Identifies and screens potential grantees, analyzes and assess background information; conducts site visits; solicits and develops funding proposals; determines appropriate funding levels.
• Plans and forecasts upcoming funding rounds, funding priorities, and timelines for the Fund, including communicating this to grantees.
• Monitors progress of existing grants, including analyzing grantee reports and regular engagements with existing and prospective grantees.
• Leads the monitoring and evaluation of assigned grants, ensuring grantee progress aligns with the Fund’s objectives and strategic priorities.
• Ensures data-driven decision-making, integrating insights from grantee reports, research, and emerging trends into advocacy strategies.
• Ensures that leadership and funders have access to timely, accurate data and research findings on the project’s performance.

Financial Management

• Ensures compliance with internal policies and fiscal sponsor/donor regulations governing project funding and operations.
• Works with the Partnership Project’s finance team to ensure budget adherence and accurate reporting for established Manyfold Fund grants and initiatives and makes recommendations to leadership.
• Supports the development of an annual Manyfold Fund operational budget to anticipate and plan for expenses including grants across the Energy, Agriculture, and Waste sectors.
• Monitors established budgets for assigned projects or grants, making decisions within approved budgets and processes. 
• Prepares and submits expense reports, ensuring compliance with organizational financial policies.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following skills, experience, and competencies:

• Demonstrates organizational values of openness, drive, inclusion, and care.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required, relevant advanced degrees or certifications preferred.
• At least 5+ years of experience leading successful campaigns to influence public policies in the United States, ideally including campaigns in at least one of the key states for Manyfold Fund.
• Grantmaking experience required.
• Skilled at building alliances across sectors and with a wide range of partners implementing strategic communications, research-backed direct advocacy, legal strategies, and other approaches. 
• Experience managing consultants to drive results. 
• Written and oral fluency in English is required.
• Excellent project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage complex, $1M+ projects and learn quickly.
• Strong research ability and advanced oral and written communication skills, including presentations.
• Highly collaborative with a partnership mindset. Encourages others to share the spotlight and visibly celebrates and supports the success of the team, external partners, and grantees.
• Intellectual agility and the ability to analyze, think critically, and understand emerging issues and opportunities to reduce methane emissions.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty; the ability to adapt nimbly.
• Have broad familiarity with the climate change policy landscape.

The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following skills, experience, and competencies:

• Experience managing grantees or partnerships in Canada preferred, including familiarity with regional energy policy landscapes and cross-cultural collaboration.
• Expertise in global energy systems, regulatory frameworks, and methane emissions reduction strategies is preferred.
• Passionate about being part of the climate change solution.

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $180,000 - $200,000.  Employees in this role are exempt from overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
