McIver Clinic is seeking an experienced and dependable PRN Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse to join our Office-Based Surgery Center team. This position supports patients undergoing urology and interventional radiology procedures and is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and compassionate nursing care throughout the pre-operative and post-anesthesia phases of care.


We are looking for a nurse who is comfortable working in a fast-paced procedural environment, communicates effectively with patients and the multidisciplinary team, and can independently recognize and respond to changes in a patient's condition.


Essential Responsibilities

  

Pre-Operative Care

  • Complete pre-operative nursing assessments and verify patient readiness for scheduled procedures.
  • Review medical history, allergies, medications, laboratory results, diagnostic testing, and      required clearances.
  • Verify completion of required documentation, consents, and pre-procedure requirements.
  • Obtain and document baseline vital signs and other required assessments.
  • Initiate and maintain peripheral IV access as appropriate.
  • Administer medications according to provider orders and facility policy.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding the procedure, recovery expectations, and      discharge process.
  • Identify abnormal findings or potential safety concerns and communicate promptly with the      appropriate provider and anesthesia team.

PACU / Recovery

  • Provide Phase I and/or Phase II post-anesthesia nursing care following urology and interventional radiology procedures.
  • Perform ongoing assessment of airway, respiratory status, cardiovascular status, neurological status, pain, nausea, surgical/procedural sites, and overall recovery.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition or post-procedure complications.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to provider orders and facility protocols.
  • Evaluate patients for progression through recovery and discharge criteria.
  • Provide clear post-procedure and discharge education to patients and responsible adult caregivers.
  • Complete accurate, timely, and thorough nursing documentation.

Urology & Interventional Radiology

  • Monitoring for procedure-specific complications, including bleeding, urinary concerns, pain, vascular access-site complications, and changes in hemodynamic status.
  • Assessment and management of urinary catheters and procedural sites as applicable.
  • Monitoring vascular access sites following IR procedures.
  • Supporting safe recovery following general anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), and/or procedural sedation as applicable.
  • Reinforcing procedure-specific discharge instructions and identifying concerns requiring provider notification.

Requirements
  • Current and unrestricted  Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent nursing experience in PACU, Pre-Op, perioperative services, procedural nursing, critical care, emergency nursing, or a comparable setting.
  • Strong patient assessment and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, anesthesia providers, nurses, surgical technologists, radiology personnel, and administrative staff.
  • Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
