Education Law fellowship
Description

Georgia Legal Services Program’s (“GLSP”) mission is to provide civil legal services for Georgians 

with low incomes, creating equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty. Working at 

GLSP presents the opportunity to work on challenging, significant advocacy surrounded by 

dedicated, hard-working, creative colleagues. We fight for justice where it is most needed. 

GLSP seeks a legal fellow to represent students and families in discipline, access, and special 

education cases in various locations around the state. The fellow will have the opportunity to deepen 

their understanding of student rights under state and federal law, while making a meaningful 

difference in the lives of children and young people struggling in school. The fellowship will last 

two (2) years, with the opportunity to continue working with GLSP upon successful completion. 


Primary Responsibilities:

• Litigate cases in administrative, state and federal forums, with a focus on student rights; 

• Draft appeal briefs, complaints, and memoranda;

• Conduct community legal education sessions and engage in outreach activities;

• Case work will focus on education law issues, including discipline, special education 

advocacy, enrollment, language access, and the rights of unhoused students.



Requirements


• Must be a law school graduate before September 2027; 

• Must have passed the bar or be committed to taking the Georgia Bar Exam in 2027;

• Must not have previously held a full-time, permanent public interest attorney position;

• Must not have participated in any other major fellowship program;

• Reliable means of transportation and valid driver's license for regular travel throughout 

service area; 

• Experience with public school systems preferred, either as a student or employee. 

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated interest in or experience working with low-income clients or marginalized 

populations and commitment to racial and social justice;

• Willingness and ability to work as part of a team professionally and collaboratively;

• Computer literacy, which includes familiarity using Microsoft Office, LegalServer, and other 

computer programs;

• Ability to work with diverse populations, backgrounds and perspectives;

• Excellent oral advocacy, research, and writing skills; 

• Attention to detail and self-motivated
