Join the Membership team with an excellent opportunity for students to learn a variety of professional skills and network with industry professionals. Membership Interns will be the first line of contact for Members, Trustees, Board Members and their guests. They will support the Membership Solutions Booth operations, NW Club operations, and Orr Western Lounge operations. Additionally, they will attend several high-profile events such as Member Mixers, Cowgirls and Cocktails, and Red Meat Club Dinner. Students interested in this internship should be flexible, reliable, possess strong customer service skills, and be able to maintain a high degree of professionalism at all times. A willingness to jump into a variety of tasks and work in a fast-paced environment will also be necessary.


Key Responsibilities:


Membership & Customer Service

  • Serve as a friendly and professional first point of contact for WSSA Members, Trustees, Board Members, volunteers, and their guests.
  • Assist members and their guests with questions regarding membership benefits, credentials, events, reservations, and Stock Show activities.
  • Support member orders, credential distribution, merchandise pickup, and other member services at the Membership Solutions Booth.
  • Assist with member check-in and guest registration at the National Western Club and other member events.
  • Help maintain an organized, welcoming, and professional membership environment throughout the Stock Show.

 

Club & Event Operations

  • Support daily operations of the National Western Club and Orr Western Lounge.
  • Assist with reservations, check-in, seating, guest questions, and other Club-related activities.
  • Provide event support for member-focused programs and special events, which may include Member Mixers, Cowgirls & Cocktails, Red Meat Club Dinner, Member receptions and gatherings and other WSSA member and stakeholder events.
  • Assist with event setup, breakdown, registration, guest services, and other operational needs.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and WSSA staff to ensure a positive experience for members and guests.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with day-to-day Membership Department operations, including mail distribution, printing and photocopying, preparing materials and credentials, organizing supplies, delivering materials throughout the campus and other administrative and office support.
  • Assist with data entry, record updates, and other membership-related projects as needed.
  • Support the Membership team with special projects and initiatives throughout the internship.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, dependable, personable, organized, and eager to learn. Because this position interacts directly with members, guests, volunteers, and WSSA leadership, candidates should demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills and the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.

Successful candidates will:

  • Have a strong interest in event management, hospitality, nonprofit organizations, membership associations, communications, business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Be comfortable interacting with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and professional levels.
  • Be organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Be reliable, punctual, and willing to take initiative.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Be flexible and willing to assist with tasks outside their primary responsibilities.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in high-pressure or high-volume situations.
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Be willing to work extended hours, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays during the National Western Stock Show.
  • Most importantly, bring a positive attitude, enthusiasm, and willingness to have fun while helping create an exceptional member experience!
