The Livestock Operations Internship is designed for applicants interested in gaining hands-on experience in the management and execution of livestock shows and sales at a national, elite level during the National Western Stock Show. Interns will work across nearly every area of livestock competition, including open and junior breeding cattle, pen and carload cattle, sheep, goats, hogs, llamas, poultry, and more. Many species and breeds are represented by national and local associations, giving interns valuable opportunities to network and work alongside industry leaders, exhibitors, breeders, veterinarians, and livestock professionals from across the country. 

Daily responsibilities may include:

• Clerking and reporting livestock auctions and sales
• Assisting on-site veterinarians and livestock staff
• Working in feed and satellite offices
• Operating webcast cameras and computers
• Assisting NWSS Show Managers with show and event operations
• Entering and verifying livestock and exhibitor data
• Processing livestock entries and paperwork
• Collecting and reviewing health papers
• Communicating with exhibitors by phone, email, and in the barns
• Assisting with additional livestock operations throughout the Stock Show

Attention to detail, strong computer skills, adaptability, and a high level of professionalism are essential. Interns should be comfortable communicating with exhibitors and industry professionals and willing to jump in wherever needed. This is a highly hands-on position that takes place both indoors and outdoors and across the entire NWSS campus. Interns should come prepared for lots of steps, long days, early mornings, and an unforgettable behind-the-scenes experience at one of the nation’s premier livestock events.
