Therapeutic Recreation Specialists — Full-Time & Part-Time

We are building a dynamic Therapeutic Recreation team for an inpatient substance use disorder treatment program and are seeking creative, energetic, patient-centered professionals with a wide range of recreation, wellness, fitness, arts, and aquatic skills.

We are especially interested in people who understand that recreation can be much more than “something to do.” Movement, creativity, play, music, time outdoors, physical challenge, and opportunities for mastery and connection can all be meaningful parts of recovery.

We welcome applicants with backgrounds in areas including:

• Aquatics: Lifeguards, swim instructors, aquatic fitness or other water-based recreation specialists. Current lifeguard certification is required for positions involving pool supervision.
• Creative Arts: Art, music, drama/theater, dance/movement, crafts, creative writing, and other expressive or therapeutic arts-based programming.
• Fitness & Wellness: Certified yoga instructors, personal trainers, fitness professionals, mindfulness instructors, strength and conditioning specialists, and others able to lead safe, engaging gym-based or outdoor exercise.
• Sports & Outdoor Recreation: Individuals with experience leading team sports, recreational games, walking/hiking groups, outdoor fitness, and other active programming.
• Other Recreation-Based Skills: We are open to hearing from people with additional talents that could translate into meaningful, engaging programming for patients in recovery.

Just as important as technical skill is how you work with people. We are looking for team members who are patient, motivating, dependable, compassionate, and able to engage individuals with a wide range of abilities, confidence levels, and stages of recovery.

Experience or training in trauma-informed care, mental health, substance use treatment, recovery-oriented services, behavioral health, therapeutic recreation, or other patient-centered settings is highly valued. Relevant professional certifications and specialized credentials are also welcomed.

Ideal candidates will be able to create an environment that is safe, respectful, encouraging, nonjudgmental, and recovery-focused, while balancing enthusiasm with sensitivity to the needs and limitations of individual patients.

Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available. Compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and professional credentials.
