Plant Operator
Description

PLANT OPERATOR

RUN THE PLANT. KEEP IT MOVING. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

Want to be the person who keeps the whole operation moving? York Building Products is looking for an experienced Plant Operator to take the controls and keep our crushing and screening operation running safely, efficiently, and at full production.

This is more than pushing buttons. You'll monitor the plant, manage material flow, watch product quality, troubleshoot problems, and work closely with the crew to keep production on track.

If you know crushers, conveyors, screens, and stockpiles — we want to talk to you!

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

RUN THE SHOW

  • Operate and monitor the plant using the HMI/control system.
  • Keep a close eye on equipment performance and make adjustments to keep production running smoothly.
  • Monitor material flow, product quality, and stockpile levels.
  • Make real-time adjustments to maximize production and maintain quality.

KNOW YOUR EQUIPMENT

  • Monitor and operate crushers, conveyors, screens, stackers, and other aggregate equipment.
  • Complete pre- and post-shift equipment inspections.
  • Check safety components, fluid levels, tires, and overall equipment condition.
  • Perform basic maintenance and assist with troubleshooting when needed.
  • Follow established preventive maintenance and inspection routines.

SOLVE PROBLEMS

Things don't always go according to plan — and that's where you come in.

You'll need to think quickly and react to equipment breakdowns, quality issues, changing demand, weather conditions, material flow problems, and other unexpected challenges.

Keep your head in the game. Find the problem. Figure it out. Keep production moving.

WORK WITH THE CREW

  • Maintain clear, timely communication with plant support personnel.
  • Coordinate with the team to keep operations safe and efficient.
  • Complete daily production reports and workplace exams.
  • Document safety, maintenance, and production issues.
  • Assist with plant repairs, cleanup, troubleshooting, and other quarry operations.
  • Keep the control room clean, organized, and ready for action.

SAFETY FIRST. ALWAYS.

  • Follow all YBP safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear required PPE.
  • Follow MSHA regulations and safe work practices.
  • Stay alert and aware of people, equipment, and changing conditions around you.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE CREW

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of the plant and keep things running.

You'll be a great fit if you have:

  • Experience operating an aggregate, crushing, or screening plant.
  • Mining, quarry, or aggregate production experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of crushers, screens, conveyors, stackers, and aggregate sizing/classifications.
  • Experience with electronic controls, HMIs, and plant operating systems — or the ability and willingness to learn.
  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and stay focused without constant supervision.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • A problem-solving mindset and the ability to make decisions quickly when things change.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends during peak production periods.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

THIS IS REAL QUARRY WORK

You'll work in an active surface mining and aggregate production environment surrounded by heavy equipment, crushers, conveyors, dust, noise, vibration, and changing weather.

It's not always easy — but if you enjoy heavy equipment, production, troubleshooting, and seeing a plant run because you know what you're doing, you'll feel right at home.

You'll need to be comfortable:

  • Working indoors and outdoors.
  • Climbing on and off equipment safely.
  • Sitting and operating equipment for extended periods.
  • Walking, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Performing inspections and light maintenance.
  • Working safely in changing weather and around moving equipment.

TRAVEL

May be required to work at various YBP facilities.
