Remote | 30 hours per week with increase to 40 hours per week within 6 months | Exempt | $65,000 - $75,000
Missionwell is looking for a detail-oriented Accountant who enjoys bringing accuracy, organization, and clarity to financial work. In this role, you will support multiple nonprofit business partners, help keep accounting records and reporting on track, and work closely with bookkeepers and internal team members in a collaborative remote environment.
This is a strong opportunity for an accountant who can work independently within established processes, communicate professionally with clients, and manage multiple priorities without losing sight of the details. Regular night and weekend work is not expected.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain accurate accounting records for assigned nonprofit business partners in accordance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, client requirements, and Missionwell policies.
- Process and review accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash activity, payroll-related entries, journal entries, and general ledger activity.
- Prepare reconciliations, account analyses, and supporting schedules; investigate variances and resolve or escalate issues appropriately.
- Support month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, financial schedules, and related documentation.
- Prepare or support financial reports, budget-to-actual analyses, grant reports, and other client-facing or internal financial information.
- Maintain grant, fund, donor, vendor, customer, and program accounting records, including documentation related to restrictions and grant requirements.
- Review financial activity for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness, and communicate accounting, internal control, or compliance concerns appropriately.
- Support audits, tax filings, Form 1099 reporting, and other compliance activities with organized, audit-ready documentation.
- Partner with assigned bookkeepers to coordinate work, review accuracy and completeness, resolve questions, and deliver timely client work.
- Help improve and document processes, support automation, and assist with new business partner onboarding and accounting-system transitions.
- Maintain organized electronic files and manage deadlines across multiple business partners in a remote environment.
This role offers opportunities to expand your nonprofit accounting expertise, mentor other bookkeeping professionals, and grow within a collaborative client services environment.
