We are looking for an assistant city editor with keen news judgment, a passion for accuracy and a deep knowledge of grammar and AP style. As a member of the Sun-Times city desk, the assistant city editor will work as part of a collegial team of editors who put out Chicago’s most competitive, complete, daily news coverage.


The assistant city editor would be responsible for focusing on the Sun-Times’ online news copy to ensure it meets our standards of excellence while also supervising a group of reporters and their daily news coverage. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or an equivalent major
  • Minimum five years of experience in journalism with at least two years of experience managing reporters
  • Mastery of AP style and grammar
  • A sharp eye for spotting typos and holes in news stories.
  • The desire and ability to work in a collaborative and collegial environment that focuses on putting out the best, most comprehensive news coverage for our readers
  • Flexibility with work hours

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Sun-Times newsroom is currently working remotely.  When feasible, the position will be based out of the Sun-Times’ newsroom in Chicago.
