The Speech Language Pathologist will be responsible for classroom activities and one-to-one audition, speech and language services, coordinating goals and objectives with classroom teachers and working with the Director of Clarke PA and the Speech Supervisor. During the afternoon hours, this position includes providing audition, speech and language services and parent support and education for families of children who are enrolled in other Clarke PA programs.
- To deliver individualized and small group therapy with a focus on auditory, speech and language skills of students who are deaf or hard of hearing using assistive technology.
- To facilitate children’s interactions with a curriculum which is child-centered, based on basic principles of child development, and will provide children with problem-solving skills and foundations for acquiring knowledge which is more content-related in the elementary years.
- Design and execute therapy lesson plans that include student’s targeted auditory, speech, pragmatic, and spoken language goals, with a link to schoolwide themes, curriculum, and Pennsylvania state standards.
- Collect and report on data for student’s individualized outcomes, as set by the IEP.
- Serve as an active participant in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings by attending and collaborating with teaching staff to report on IEP goals and draft new goals and objectives as student’s achieve mastery.
- Complete auditory, speech, and language standardized testing in accordance with Clarke’s formalized testing protocol.
- Write and submit trimester reports for students.
- Participate in trimester progress report meetings.
- To provide diagnostic information about auditory and spoke language skills of hearing-impaired preschoolers using formal tests, language samples, diagnostic teaching and observation.
- To observe children in the classroom and record information related to all aspects of the child’s developmental profile to be used later in quarterly reports.
- To maximize opportunities for auditory and language.
- To facilitate children’s communication and ensure carryover of activities between the classroom and individualized sessions.
- To serve as a facilitator, diagnostician, and observer of student’s skills in audition and spoken language.
- To provide a comfortable, supportive environment for parents in which they are respected, encouraged to observe their children in individualized sessions, and support in their efforts to communicate with their hearing-impaired child/children.
- To educate parents and provide them with follow-up activities which will enhance the development of their child’s communication skills.
- To communicate effectively with Clarke staff, families, related service-providers, and health care professions as it related to the care and success of students on their caseload.
- Participate in regularly scheduled department/inter-department meetings.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Participate in Clarke’s Professional Development plan and attends learning opportunities as scheduled by administration.
- Attend parent support meetings and Clarke sponsored events.
- Collaborate with professionals outside of Clarke as it benefits students, families, or professional development opportunities.
- Maintains credentials and meets training requirements as outlined by ASHA and other local agencies.
- Ability to carry up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to stoop or kneel.
Education, licenses, certifications, skills and experience:
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA
- Certification in Listening and Spoken Language Cert. AVT or AVEd. preferred
- Pennsylvania state credentials
- Pennsylvania State clearances – Child Abuse, FBI, Criminal Background Check
- Knowledge and experience in identifying, assessing, and providing treatment for individuals with speech and language delays or disorders.
- Knowledge and experience in early childhood education
- Knowledge and experience with assistive listening devices, including but not limited to, hearing aids, cochlear implants, bone anchored hearing aids, and remote technology.
