MBPI, LLC dba Gun Lake Investments (“GLI”) is the Economic Development Corporation of the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish Band of Pottawatomi Indians, or better known as the Gun Lake Tribe. As an arm and instrumentality of the Tribe, GLI serves as their non-gaming private capital arm with a focus on developing direct investment opportunities across a portfolio of real estate, operating companies, and direct credit. This forward-thinking entity enhances the Tribal economy, as well as that of the broader community, while providing financial diversification for the Tribe. GLI’s independent governance blends the best family enterprise and corporate governance practices, with Tribal governance and culture, creating a purpose-led focus that is both strategic and nimble.
GLI is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to focus on leading GLI’s internal operations, financial planning and analysis, reporting, accounting and finance, and portfolio management activities. The ideal candidate will exhibit an energetic, entrepreneurial and ‘utility’ spirit for our small but growing team. They will play an influential role with new investments, including structuring, due diligence, and integration. Their portfolio management duties will range from leading weekly cadences to board governance roles and be the primary source of accountability for the performance of all portfolio investments and ensure that proper GLI resources are allocated to the portfolio teams.
This position will report directly to the CEO and will assist with all activities of the organization and meeting GLI’s goals, while promoting GLI’s “People First” culture. They will play an important role with the development of corporate strategy to ensure that corporate vision is connected to operational execution. They will protect the reputation of GLI and the potential effects GLI may have on our broader Tribal community.
This position will be an integral component of GLI’s growth and strategy execution. It will be necessary to immediately contribute to the organization; thus, candidates should have direct experience with the core functions of this position. The ideal candidate must have a history of personal growth within a demanding and growing organization, ideally within a Family Investment Office, Family or Tribally owned enterprise. There will be a heavy emphasis placed on possessing broad business knowledge and experience, strategy execution, business planning, financial reporting, and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have gained experience within a middle market or large corporate organization that has a desire to provide impact within a values-led, entrepreneurial, and team-based organization. A Bachelor’s in Business Administration, is required, combined with at least 10 years of experience. Additional preference will be provided for a Masters of Business Administrations.
