Summer Camp Assistant Counselor

POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, structured, and fun camp experience. This position helps with transitions, assists in managing group activities, and ensures a positive, inclusive atmosphere for all campers. The Assistant Teacher plays a vital role in engaging with children while upholding safety and behavioral expectations.

This is a part-time seasonal position with the following split shifts available:

7:30 AM - 12:30 PM Monday-Friday    12:30 PM - 5:30 PM Monday-Friday


Mandatory Training Dates

Attendance at all training dates is required. Staff who cannot attend all sessions cannot be hired.

  • April 21, 2026 – Virtual via Zoom
  • May 1, 2026 – Virtual via Zoom
  • May 16, 2026 – In Person
  • May 17, 2026 – In Person
  • May 18, 2026 – In Person

Interview Requirements

Interviews will begin shortly after the application deadline.
Candidates must be prepared to:

  • Answer comprehensive situational and behavioral questions
  • Present one game
  • Present one song or dance (appropriate for ages 5–12)

  Scheduling Expectations

  • Staff may request up to one week of time off during the summer.
  • Requests must be discussed during the interview.
  • More than one week of time off may result in not being hired.


Requirements

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Actively engages with children throughout the day and assists in facilitating games, lessons, and activities.

· Helps implement daily programs that are age-appropriate and aligned with camp values.

· Ensures the safety and cleanliness of activity spaces and common areas.

· Assists with set-up and clean-up of activities.

· Follows all safety policies and procedures, including child abuse prevention and emergency response plans.

· Supports behavior management strategies to maintain a positive and respectful camp environment.

· Assists in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all children.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Must be at least 18 years old.

· Previous experience working with children in camps, schools, or recreational settings preferred.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

· CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required within 30 days of hire.
