We're Tovala, a food-tech company completely reinventing home cooking to save consumers time. Through an innovative combination of hardware, software, and food, we give our customers a way to enjoy really good, good-for-you meals without sacrificing time to do whatever matters to them. We've amassed a loyal, rapidly growing following in just a few years, radically changing the day-to-day lives of people across the country and successfully creating a new model for the food industry. We're looking for great people to join our team of hard-working, food-loving nerds in our R&D and prototyping dream shop in Urbana.
We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Hardware Engineering team this summer. Your primary responsibility will be to help us improve the way we perform mechanical tests on our food shipping packaging, by developing a precisely repeatable drop testing machine. You will research the standard packaging tests and our existing best practice, develop a specification, design a drop testing machine, and construct it with the help of our fabricator. You will also help design and execute thermal tests on our food and oven. This will include instrumenting food with temperature sensors, setting up and modifying the test chamber and data acquisition system, and processing the resulting data.
How you’ll spend your time at Tovala:
