Description

 Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient’s problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members; administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and Hospital policy. Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department. Will be required to take emergency call as needed.


Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Gather patient clinical information prior to procedures including patient assessments and patient history. Completes nursing assessment, documents findings in patient records and notifies physician of abnormal findings.  
  • Provides ongoing patient information to the interventionist and clinical team during procedures to deliver vascular access care to the patient including but not limited to cardiac monitoring, Aldrete score, pain status. Monitor patient vitals (HR, BP, O2Sat, EKG) during procedures. 
  • Act as monitor role documenting procedure and patient hemodynamics. 
  • Assist in recovery room patient care following vascular access procedures. 
  • Establishes a care plan in collaboration with the patient, family and health care team. 
  • Coordinates ongoing care. Identifies discharge needs and facilitates discharge planning as appropriate. 
  • Performs nursing procedures and treatments as directed by physician in the treatment and management of patient care. 
  • Evaluates, initiates and maintains standards of care consistent with hospital policies and procedures. 
  • Assists with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical department and medical specialty assigned. 
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by a physician.  
  • Monitor and maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies. 
  • Serves as charge nurse when assigned to ensure efficient operations and continuity of care. Establishes patient care priorities and delegates nursing activities according to the patient needs and staff qualifications and capabilities. 
  • Participates in education, research and performance improvement activities. Provides health education to patients and families. 
  • Develops, evaluates, adapts and documents education to meet learning needs and abilities of patients and families. Assists in the preparation of department specific education for patients and colleagues. 
  •  Covers other nursing roles in the department. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Requirements
  • Valid Ohio Nursing License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required within 6 months of hire and maintained the duration of employment.  
  • Must have basic knowledge of Cath Lab and preparing patients for catheterizations, angioplasty and pacemaker implantation.
  • Must be able to work in a cooperative environment with the rest of the health care team members.
