A highly regarded pathology practice in Melrose-Wakefield Healthcare, now in partnership with Tufts Medical Center Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is seeking two full-time AP/CP board certified/ eligible pathologists. All candidates are encouraged to apply. Fellowship training in cytology and/or hematopathology, experience in surgical pathology, and experience in Transfusion Medicine, are desirable.
The Department of Pathology is accredited by both the College of American Pathologists and the American Association of Blood Banks. The Anatomic Pathology service accessioned approximately 13,500 specimens in 2019 (pre-COVID pandemic), including a variety of biopsies, large surgical specimens, and approximately 25 bone marrow cases. There were over 11,000 GYN pap cytology and approximately 600 Non- GYN cytology cases in 2019 with GU and breast services expected to increase. The clinical laboratory services include clinical chemistry, hematology, transfusion services, microbiology, and among others.
The pathologists participate in intraoperative consultations/frozen section, on-site FNA evaluation for interventional radiology procedures (CT, ultrasound, EBUS), and CP calls, mainly for the blood bank (pending level III trauma center application), and hematology. AP and CP calls are required (shared among all pathologists).
Applicants must have excellent communication skills to interact with clinicians, administrators, and department staff. The pathologists are members of various medical staff and hospital committees, acting as liaisons between the medical staff, administration, and the laboratory. They also have opportunities to participate in educational and teaching activities at Tufts Medical Center.
