The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) pioneers collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges. Our scientists explore dynamic ocean systems from marine life to environmental conditions to coastal economies. We infuse our discoveries into the policy arena and design solutions with fishermen and seafood businesses to protect fishery resources, harvest them responsibly, and market them as premium quality food. We share our discoveries with the public and nurture a culture of leadership in communities that depend on the sea. Our education programs cultivate science literacy and build a foundation of collaborative problem-solving among our next generation of leaders, scientists, citizens, and stewards. Each year, we serve over 25,000 stakeholders from Cape Cod to Nova Scotia.
GMRI’s Development Team plays a pivotal role in nurturing the financial and community support needed to ensure the long-term success of the organization. We seek a full-time Grants Coordinator to join our team.
Primary responsibilities will include: writing, editing, proofreading, and assembling a variety of corporate and foundation requests, tracking foundation and corporate strategies and communications, and prospect research. Currently, 50% or more of this position’s day-to-day focus centers on supporting the funding and sponsor relationship strategies for GMRI’s statewide LabVenture science education program (~$1 million annually). The balance will involve gathering information for quarterly/bi-annual/annual funder reports and coordinating grant submissions (including gathering supplemental documents, creating project budgets, etc.).
This position will also have the chance to write about a variety of other GMRI projects/programs as donor cultivation opportunities demand. This position requires an aptitude for high volume production writing (often repurposing existing materials to target each funder’s specific interests and requirements) with meticulous attention to detail, and an ability to derive personal satisfaction from working behind the scenes to support the efforts of other team members in fundraising and communications. It requires an organized self-starter, who can work both independently and in close collaboration with other team members, and who can prioritize effectively when faced with multiple competing demands.
As part of GMRI’s Development team, the Grants Coordinator will participate in bi-weekly staff meetings and will support GMRI’s commitment to growing our base of support and increasing public awareness about our institution and mission. The Grants Coordinator will be expected to be flexible and assist with other tasks that may arise or attend donor events to support production and/or relationship-building, as necessary.
