REPORTS TO:  Program Manager, Early Childhood

COMPENSATION:  $32,300-$40,700 Annually or $15.53-$19.57 Hourly 1.0 FTE Non-Exempt

Latino Network seeks a bilingual, bi-cultural mission-driven professional with proven nonprofit and community experience to lead a full range of activities for a growing organization. As part of a dedicated team working toward a shared vision, the P-3 (Prenatal 3rd grade) Coordinator is charged with supporting the SUN Site Manager and Principal to increase and deepen diverse parent-centred family engagement and leadership at the school. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves position with the capacity to impact the education and wellbeing of hundreds of young children and their families from diverse backgrounds. The P-3 (Prenatal-3rd grade) Coordinator will work closely with the SUN Site Manger and Principal to increase and deepen diverse parent-centered family engagement and leadership at the school. This work will focus on parents with infants through children in third grade. P-3 Coordinators will foster collaboration with early learning partners and projects and build support in the school and community for the school as a hub for early learning.

  • Cultivate and provide opportunities for culturally diverse parent leaders at the school and those about to enter the school
  • Gather information from parents, both informally and formally, about their interests, strengths, and needed support
  • Be present and visible in the school building
  • Look for opportunities, such as daily school drop-off, events at the school and events in the community, to greet and get to know families
  • Utilize popular education methods and provide opportunities for families to share their knowledge and experience in culturally relevant ways
  • Convene a diverse parent leadership group for project planning and action, this could be a new or existing Family Leadership Team or a separate group
  • Support coordination of the Early Kindergarten Transition (EKT) program, including facilitating the EKT parent component
  • Lead outreach efforts for P-3 activities
  • Help the school develop a family-friendly climate, with a special focus on supporting families of color and families who speak languages other than English
  • Support Kindergarten Teacher Family Visits through data collection, communication with families, and accompanying teachers on home visits
  • Create opportunities for parents to build supportive peer relationships
  • Assist families in accessing community resources and navigating social service supports
  • Conduct home visits to remove barriers and to develop relationships
  • Support transition of parent leadership from Head Start to school
  • Connect with early childhood and community partners, including Community Education Workers, DHS and local childcare providers and build links between partners and the school
  • Maintain clear communication with SUN Site Manager, SUN Early Learning Coordinator and Principal to keep them informed of successes and challenges
  • Join and participate fully on relevant school teams, such as the attendance and family engagement teams 
  • Include P-3 activities in the SUN Annual Plan 
  • Attend regular meetings and trainings coordinated by the SUN Early Learning Team
  • Collect, enter, and report on data on a regular basis, this will include utilizing ServicePoint and conducting parent surveys


  • One or more years of informal or formal community organizing
  • Experience working with or in public schools
  • Knowledge of the community and an ability to authentically connect with families from diverse cultural background
  • Strong desire to promote educational equity in the community
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • Ability to be flexible and creative in the work environment
  • Ability to set limits in order to care for self and not promote dependency
  • Respect for diversity; desire and ability to work cross-culturally

  • Bilingual English/Spanish required


  • Regularly work in the office and in the community as needed
  • Evening and weekend availability may be required, and work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods
  • Reliable car, driver’s license, and automobile liability insurance; must be eligible to be an insured driver under Latino Network’s Commercial Auto Liability
  • May require heavy lifting and walking during events and outreach activities
  • May work in the community including client homes, schools, churches, parks, community centers, etc
  • Undergoing and passing criminal background check is required
