Arapahoe Basin Vehicle Maintenance Mechanics perform maintenance on all of Arapahoe Basin’s vehicle fleet which includes on-road vehicles, snowcats, snowmobiles, front end loaders, plow truck/sander, mini excavators, skid steers, trucks, shuttle buses, generators, chainsaws, and small gas-powered tools.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintains Arapahoe Basin’s vehicle fleet in safe and proper working condition following all regular maintenance schedules for any specific machine
  • Understands basic machine operation for a variety of vehicle types
  • Performs maintenance and repair to tires/tire chains and has knowledge to jump start 12V and 24V vehicles
  • Perform weekly machine checks for leaks, wear, and other potential damage to vehicles
  • Perform simple diagnostics and repair with direct supervision/assistance of Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic III
  • Perform routine, scheduled, maintenance and repairs on Arapahoe Basin’s vehicle fleet
  • Maintains neat, clean, and orderly workshop and surrounding areas
  • Ability to learn and keep knowledge of basic understanding of Arapahoe Basin grooming methods and trail network
  • Directs the company’s Hazardous Materials Handling Procedures and Guidelines and educates others on this topic
  • Properly documents all completed work orders on a daily basis
  • Maintains adequate parts, materials, and supplies
  • Maintains and meets all OSHA standards
  • Improvise and pioneer efficient methods for service and repairs
  • Works closely with other departments as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent


Experience Requirements:

  • Previous experience in automotive and heavy equipment repair
  • Previous experience working on vehicles and with small power equipment
  • Previous experience working in maintenance shop environment or equivalent


Skills Required:

  • Can demonstrate fundamental knowledge of mechanical maintenance on various types of machinery
  • Good understanding of vehicle electrical systems
  • Able to perform work on small engines – including 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines
  • Maintains a high level of safety consciousness
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving skills
  • Works well with others and in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Bend, twist, kneel, pull, push and lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Stand, kneel, squat, lay under machines for long periods of time
  • Ability to crawl under or hoist one’s self on top of machinery
  • Visually and audibly inspect for irregularities in machinery
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme winter weather conditions
  • Ability to withstand high altitude conditions at all times

Other Requirements:

  • Able to work weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Pass a Motor Vehicle Background Check – preferred

Work Environment:

  • The position works mainly indoors in the Vehicle Maintenance Shop. Some work outside in snowy, icy, and inclement weather is required. Most work time is spent on your feet moving around or in other potentially strenuous positions.

Vehicle Maintenance – Mechanic Staging Program:

Arapahoe Basin Vehicle Maintenance Mechanics are eligible for a staging program based on experience which relates to applicable pay. Staging requirements and related skills are listed below:


Vehicle Maintenance – Mechanic 1 – Requirements above. Please see below for 2-3 requirements.

Pay Range: $17.75-$24.00 


Vehicle Maintenance – Mechanic 2 – All Stage 1 responsibilities/skills plus the following:

Pay Range: $20.25-30.50

  • Ability to operate required equipment (all of Arapahoe Basin’s vehicle fleet) in a safe and responsible manner
  • Basic understanding of hydraulic and hydrostatic systems and how they work
  • Meets all EPA standards for fuel and hazardous waste storage
  • Basic fabrication skills - oxy-acetylene torch, mig welding, stick welding
  • Basic diagnostic skills for heavy machinery that fall under Arapahoe Basin’s vehicle fleet
  • Basic parts ordering and computer use
  • Ability to build and replace hydraulic hoses
  • Complete understanding of all equipment function including ability to safely run and use all equipment in Arapahoe Basin’s vehicle fleet
  • Perform simple diagnostics and repair without any supervision
  • Perform higher level diagnostics and repair with supervision and assistance of Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic III

Vehicle Maintenance – Mechanic 3 – All Stage 1 and 2 responsibilities/skills plus the following:

Pay Range: $23.00-$34.50

  • Can demonstrate advanced knowledge of mechanical maintenance on various types of machinery
  • Advanced fabrication skills - tig/aluminum welding, structural welding, ability to completely fabricate machine parts
  • Complete knowledge of hydraulic system function, ability to adjust/repair hydraulic pumps
  • Complete diagnostic capability for diesel engines including use of Caterpillar ET and SisWeb
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical systems including diagnostics and repair
  • Ability to log machine issues, repairs, and parts usage on computer with Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to order parts efficiently taking into account alternative vendors, timeline, and current parts inventory
  • Ability to effectively manage service, maintenance, and repair of entire on and off-road vehicle fleet
