Turf Care Team Leader


The Turf Care Team Leader is an experienced landscape professional that is responsible for a variety of maintenance related activities including, but not limited to; turf applicator, aeration/seeding, landscape lighting checks and troubleshooting, irrigation checks and troubleshooting, water feature checks and troubleshooting, punch list items, warranty items, and other miscellaneous landscape management and snow related activities.


  • Run and operate turf fertilization equipment for necessary turf fertilization and weed control applications
  • Run and operate turf aeration and seeding machine for that operation; Obtain soil samples as needed
  • Run and operate all mowing, turf and leaf removal equipment
  • Perform irrigation system audits, adjustments and minor repairs
  • Perform lighting system checks and repairs
  • Perform water feature system checks and minor repairs as required
  • Makes plant health care applications as directed by Group Leader
  • Applies pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and insecticides as needed
  • Perform snow removal operations as required
  • Fields client questions, concerns and requests while on-site only
  • Communicates with operations leader to advise of systematic issues that need to be resolved or addressed.
  • Reports quality control issues to Landscape Management Group Leader
  • Enforces safe work behavior and maintains safe work sites.
  • Assist with executing warranty claims and problems
  • Makes recommendations to CSR for enhancement opportunities
  • Supports the company's mission, goals, and core values.
  • Assist with other duties for the good of team members and the Company


  • This position requires a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in a green industry related field or a five years of documented hands-on experience in the hardscape industry, plus two years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • A working knowledge of standard horticultural practices and cultural requirements is required along with an advanced understanding of landscape construction concepts.
  • Candidate must be proficient in the use of computers and have a working knowledge of
  • Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, supervisory skills, and a mechanical aptitude are a must.
  • Candidate must have excellent organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.


This position requires that the individual to have the following certifications:

  • First/Aid and CPR
  • Virginia Certified Horticulturist
  • VDACS Commercial Applicator


The majority of the time (greater than 80%) will be spent in an outdoor environment, with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants and temperature.

The employee is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday, Saturdays as needed. The work hours required of this position may be long when extended schedules are necessary. This is an hourly position with a normally expected work week of 50+/- hours, but the person in this position is expected to work those hours needed to successfully satisfy the responsibilities and duties of the position.

STARTING PAY RANGE: $14 - $18/hour, commensurate on experience
