Milwaukee Repertory Theater, a LORT theater located in the heart of Wisconsin’s largest metropolitan area, is currently seeking applicants for the position of part-time Theater Teaching Artist. Our mission is to ignite positive changes in the cultural, social, and economic vitality of our community by creating world-class theater experiences that entertain, provoke, and inspire meaningful dialogue among an audience representative of Milwaukee’s rich diversity. Position Summary:

Milwaukee Repertory Theater has an excellent opportunity for outgoing and enthusiastic Teaching Artists to join the Education Department’s faculty. The hiring process is ongoing until all positions are filled. Interested applicants should apply promptly according to the directions below.


Major Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Implementing curriculum for after-school and in-school workshops and residencies
  • Developing and/or adapting curriculum as assigned for specific classroom needs
  • Collecting student work and anecdotal evidence for assessment and reporting purposes
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with Education staff and program partners, including completing and submitting bi-weekly check-ins, timesheets, and attending Teaching Artist meetings
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Education
  • Attending student matinees as available

Compensation:

This is a part-time, non-exempt, position with an hourly rate of pay between $25-$35 per hour, commensurate with experience. Additionally, employees will receive a stipend payment for all prep and admin work. Teaching Artists are are eligible for comp tickets to our shows and are encouraged to attend.

Requirements
  1. Experience and/or training as a theater artist and/or educator. Additional Teaching Artist Training and Professional Development will be provided by Milwaukee Rep
  2. Ideal candidates will have experience in performing arts with middle and high school students. Experience instructing adults in performing arts curriculum preferred but not required
  3. Applicant does not need to be an expert on theater-related artistic expression, rather must demonstrate confidence in and understand how to guide students through an artistic process (spoken word, visual, poetry, devising, etc.)
  4. Solid classroom management skills
  5. Ability to follow a set curriculum as well as adapt material 
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  7. Access to a personal vehicle for travel to schools preferred but not required
  8. Ability to pass a background check in accordance with state and federal laws
  9. Ability to provide proof of fully vaccinated status before first day of work
  10. Fluency in another language or languages preferred but not required
Salary Description
$25-$35/hr
