Reports to: Production Manager 

Department/Area: Contract Producers,  Production

Supervises: None

 

Purpose:

To provide technical support and service to all Maple Lawn Associates, Inc. (MLA) pullet and layer flocks, serving God   and Humanity by providing excellent and innovative poultry products for life and health. This includes cultivating consistent professional working relationships with our customers, contract farmers, potential contract farmers, and suppliers.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 · Collaborate  with Production Manager to oversee all pullet and layer flocks to ensure birds are getting the best care and that Maple Lawn has a strong flock network resource

· Work closely with Production team to remain in compliance at all times with the following:

          o Customer compliance specifications

          o FDA

          o NPIP

          o CDFA

          o MLA Flock Care Program

          o MLA SERP 

          o MLA Producer SOP

· Organize contract producer training records

· Oversee FDA compliance

· Oversee NPIP compliance and registration

· Monitor and seek ways to improve flock performance

· Collaborate with Production Manager to oversee the growing of pullets and roosters, either MLA or custom grown:

          o Collaborate with network of Flock Service Technicians

          o Work with contract farmers to continually improve flock service program

          o See that hauling, service, vaccinations, wash-downs, etc. are performed correctly

          o Create individualized vaccination schedules based on company program

          o Work with Production Manager to create company vaccination program

          o Coordinate and monitor all pullet vaccinations

          o Create lighting schedules for pullet producers          

          o Manage all chick placements

          o Monitor all feed orders

          o Manage all flock testing per MLA’s customer compliance requirements

          o Establish and maintain good working relationships with PADLS laboratory veterinarians

          o Address any/all flock issues (i.e. bird health, environmental issues, etc.)

          o Manage and monitor all routine quality tests (water, feed, stray voltage, etc.)

· Collaborate with Production Manager to oversee all contract embryo and commercial production, and provide superior layer management services:

          o Collaborate with network of Flock Service Technicians

          o Work with Producers and Flock Service Technicians to continually improve flock service program

          o Communicate and coordinate various schedules with Producers and Flock Service Technicians

          o Monitor all feed orders

          o Improve flock conditions and egg quality (collaborate with Production Manager)

          o Address any/all flock issues (i.e.   bird health, environmental issues, etc.)

          o Manage and monitor all routine quality tests (water, feed, stray voltage, etc.)

          o Work with Production Manager and Flock Service Technicians to draw blood to evaluate flock health and current                                 vaccination program

· Attend industry related/poultry health meetings

· Attend customer audits when necessary

· Work with Production Manager to perform Quarterly Performance audits

· Complete data entry of flock performance

· Communicate flock performance and production information to Production Manager to better develop weekly feed rations

· Provide training for all contract farmers and their employees

· Communicate with commercial flock partners to maintain customer compliance at all commercial egg facilities based on egg market demands

· Maintain FDA compliance at all facilities based on guidelines set within MLA SERP

          o Attend FDA audits

 

Other Responsibilities:

· Be available on-call to respond to emergency needs related to MLA flock network

· Participate in leadership meetings, as requested

· Participate in educational opportunities such as poultry conventions, skill development, etc.

· Perform other duties as assigned

 


Requirements

Position Requirements: 

· High school diploma or GED; and at least 3 years poultry and animal production experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

· B.S. in Agriculture preferred

· Must have valid Driver’s License

· Must have PA Certified Poultry Technician license, or ability to get licensed with proper training

· Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word) and ability to be trained on other computer programs as needed

· Be able to respond to emergency calls after hours via company-provided cell phone

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as maintenance instructions and standard operating procedure   manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or producers.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference,   and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
