Chief Operating Officer (COO)
Description

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate staffing programs designed to attract the highest caliber of talent while satisfying the needs of our organization and partners
  • Collaborate with CEO on short- and long-term strategic plans for organizational growth and evolution
  • Serve as the CEO when the CEO is unavailable
  • Collaborate with the CFO with financial projections and analyses of existing programs and policies and operational effectiveness.
  • Assure that staff is trained in the latest leadership and technical skills so they can better serve our organization and partners
  • Collaborate with budgeting and resource allocation efforts alongside the other C-level executives and the senior management team
  • Ensure all program initiatives align with the organization’s core values and culture
  • Provide leadership to the operations team and coach others throughout the organization to optimize their capabilities.


     Key Areas of Focus

  • Develop and execute organizational/business plans
  • Participates in developing and implementing a strategic plan that supports the organization’s vision and goals; translates the strategic plan to staff to ensure support; and modifies the plan in response to changing internal and external factors.
  • Participates with CEO and other leadership team members in setting policies and determining strategies to meet or exceed revenue, profit, and cash flow commitments to the company.
  • Analyzes current and future organizational trends, identifies needs, and accurately assesses functional capabilities, competitive strengths and vulnerabilities.
  • Identifies opportunities for new value creation.


     Leadership

  • Motivates and leads a high performance management team; attracts, recruits and retains talent in support of a Lean organization culture. 
  • Upholds, safeguards and promotes the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, integrity, and social responsibility.
  • Builds and maintains a departmental structure that is responsive and adaptive with an emphasis on Lean Strategy and Lean Process operating standards and practices. 
  • Develops and implements a talent plan to ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time to meet the strategic needs of the organization.
  • Makes certain that the strategic direction of the CEO is appropriately communicated throughout the organization fostering a success-oriented, accountable environment in support of the company’s vision, mission and goals.


Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least eight (8) years of strong operational experience with at least five (5) years in a senior management role preferred. 
  • Advanced organizational leadership skills and excellent written, oral and client-facing communication skills. 
  • Budget-focused mindset with experience creating a Lean culture – with proven track record of success in building and maintaining a sustainable team of experts in both lean strategy and lean process optimization.
  • Ability to foster a performance-oriented culture among a group of diverse, talented and results driven individuals.
  • Ability to see the forces, events, entities, and people that are affecting (or being affected by) the situation at hand and establish a course of action.
  • Has strong business knowledge and experience with the ability to provide reports and analysis, develop and implement strategic plans within context of the larger picture.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of modern management and administration; government policy, financial analysis; project management; and personnel management.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating a wide variety of activities; developing, implementing and communicating policies and procedures for a growing organization
  • Ability to analyze data, make sound recommendations and adopt effective causes of action; work persuasively and tactfully with all staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with accountability for organizational development, personnel management, budget development, and strategic planning.
  • Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission. Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
