Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Chemistry

We are seeking to fill one of two full-time tenure-track assistant professors with expertise in organic chemistry or physical chemistry.  The successful candidate will invigorate our major in chemistry through a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in a robust learning community.  The position begins in August 2019. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline.  ABD applicants who are less than a year from completion will be considered.  Applicants must be dedicated to undergraduate teaching and research, have a vibrant personal Christian faith commitment, and a desire to serve as a role model for students in a Christian academic community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the position include:

  • teaching physical chemistry or organic chemistry and general chemistry and depending on expertise biochemistry as well as other sub-disciplines and non-majors courses within the chemistry department.
  • providing academic and career advising to students in chemistry
  • serving on Department and University committees
  • performing other responsibilities as defined by the University. 
  • mentor student research projects with in the Greenville University Summer Research Program


THE CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT:

The University has a dynamic Chemistry Department whose number of majors has grown by 300% in the past few years.  The Department has an outstanding record of sending students on for doctoral work and other graduate/professional programs.  The department is committed to our students having hands-on experience with our wide variety of instrumentation (Saturn 2000 GC/MS, Agilent 7800 GC, Shimadzu 10AVP and Agilent 1200 series HPLCs, Nicolet 6700 FT-IR, Nicolet 6700 FT-IR connected to NXT Raman module, multinuclear FT-NMR (60 MHz), Cary 50 UV-Vis, Perkin-Elmer DSC7 Differential Scanning calorimeter and a newly purchased Shimadzu ICPE 9820 Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectrometer,.
