Description


KEXP’s Internship Program seeks to provide interns from historically under-invited communities with hands-on experience in the nonprofit arts sector. Our program is designed to develop and equip emerging leaders interested in furthering their careers in a variety fields of including music programming, audio production, and nonprofit capacity building. 


All internships are 6-months long, are 15 hours per week, and include:

  • a monthly stipend that equals $15 per hour
  • opportunities for mentoring
  • mandatory monthly cohort activities
  • final presentation to KEXP’s executive leadership team 


Internship Position Summary: The Events intern provides critical support to KEXP’s Events Team around event production and management. The intern will be involved in all aspects of event planning leading up to the event and day of show management to create meaningful in-person experiences for KEXP constituencies. Gain invaluable experience in event logistics, artist booking, vendor relations, and planning engaging, mission-based events that serve the community. The selected candidate must show a strong interest in event coordination and learning how to produce and manage events including all minor and major details.


Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Represent KEXP at events and work with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work xam-xpm or have a flexible work schedule/availability
  • Develop event-related materials, including written communications and collateral 
  • Act as an event assistant for Concerts at the Mural, Little Big Show, Ampliversary donor parties, and more as needed:
  • Delegate and work with event volunteers
  • Ensure smooth run of show
  • Work directly with speakers, artists, sound and production staff leading up to and during the event
  • Contribute to the improvement and evolution of KEXP events through planning and post mortems 
  • Assist with Public In-Studios activations, including crowd management, public announcements, and listener and guest customer service
  • Update the Outreach & Events Calendar using MSFT Outlook program
  • Learn to use Shiftboard, KEXP’s volunteer database, to request, schedule, and assist with event volunteers, ensuring event coverage at all times
  • Develop working relationships with internal (i.e. Production, Development) and external (i.e. nonprofit organizations, catering) stakeholders
  • Sit in on events team meetings as needed
  • Advance artists with event details and information 
  • Attend monthly intern cohort meetings and activities
  • End of internship capstone project and presentation
Requirements


General Qualifications: 

  • Passion for and commitment to KEXP’s mission
  • Strong communication and people skills, both written and verbal
  • Attention to detail, both large and small
  • Work independently and follow instructions
  • Must be 21 years of age or or older
  • Deep love of music
  • Interest in artist booking and relations
  • Flexible schedule; availability to work some nights and weekends
  • Ability to move supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 20 pounds regularly

Skills Learned:

  • Opportunity to supervise, direct and provide guidance to events volunteers
  • Best practices in event planning and production including run of show/timeline, advancing, event documentation shared with key stakeholders, and writing/developing talking points
  • Artist booking
  • Interpersonal skills needed for collaboration within and across departments
  • Experience in cloud-based systems including Smartsheet, Marketo, and Cvent
  • Project management skills that maximize efficiency, accountability, and documentation
  • Negotiating contracts with artists, artist management, and labels
  • Priority and time management skills  
  • Additional opportunity to pursue project or learn specific skill based on personal interest (with approval from Supervisor)
